What is the state of ROCm & Tensorflow on AMD GPU?

I'm getting into machine learning for the first time. Naturally, I'd much prefer to use my GPU for training if possible.

A bit of searching (see this forum post and this task) seems to indicate that Solus does not ship with ROCm by default, which leads me to believe that I will be limited to CPU for training models with Tensorflow unless I can figure out how to set it up. If I'm incorrect here, please correct me.

What is the state of ROCm in Solus?
Is it possible for me to use my 5700XT to train models with Tensorflow, and if so how do I go about setting this up?

It's not in repo yet but some community members are working on it, see https://discuss.getsol.us/d/4167-i-built-rocm-for-solus-i-need-someone-to-test-it.

If you can compile that stack successfully you can probably use it with something like https://pypi.org/project/tensorflow-rocm/.

As for rocm in the solus repos: historically, rocm was every difficult to build (and still is to an extent) but it's getting to a point where it looks like it can be relatively easily be compiled for and redistributed for linux distributions. However, we would still need a reliable maintainer to step forward.

joebonrichie That post from MMX is almost two years old, so I wasn't sure whether it was still relevant at all. Thanks for clarifying the situation.

Unfortunately I'm having some trouble building the package. This is my first time working with solbuild, so I'm not sure whether I'm doing something wrong or if something else is amiss. If you have a chance, I'd appreciate it if you took a look at my reply on his discussion. Perhaps you can see from the errors where I'm going wrong.
