Formatting from one thing to another is always a PITA. Reddit is particularly annoying and always manages to screw things up for me.
Markdown can be extra special (Not here on flarum). But the spec states that paragraphs are defined by two consecutive newline characters. Changing the

paragraph like this
in true markdown a single new line is ignored. To do that you would need to end the line with a double space followed by a single newline. 👀 So I assume ghostwriter would not be perfect because flarum does not do that stupid stuff.
Formatting is completely different in its raw and processed form pretty much everywhere because not everone uses the same spec. Not having a preview button on creating a thread is a pretty big oversight however.
ctrl+shift+v can sometimes save you as it strips formatting from the text you are pasting. But it is not a magic bullet, significant edits are usually still required when moving between a stand alone editor and forum/reddit etc.
