Flatpak Issues

So I moved to fish shell and now my flatpak apps don't populate in the menu. Thankfully, they still show up in krunner. From what I understand, this is an issue with the fact that flatpak uses a script in /etc/profile.d to add the flatpak applications to the appropriate xdg paths, and this doesn't work properly with fish. Does anyone know of a work around for this that doesn't require using bash shell and launching terminal into fish everytime?

Brucehankins afaik flatpak got dramatically updated yesterday (in a good way for me). Follow the changelog and the links in the changelog and maybe there will be a clue as to where to move something so you can get repopulated (menu) again. Good luck I know nothing about Fish.

Brucehankins Are you positive this is fish's fault? I ask because I've been using fish and flatpak apps for years, and I've never add any issues with the apps not showing up in the menu. I checked just now and they're still showing up just fine on my end. Considering the flatpak's rollback in yesterday's update, could it be possible that it's something entirely flatpak related on your end?

nathanpainchaud could be, but I know I had no issues with bash. Also, FWIW, I'm running on Plasma and not a GTK base, so that may or may not make a difference. Also possibly update related, but I can't remember for sure if they were showing up with fish before the update.

Here is the message I get when I run flatpak update -y
Note that the directories /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share /home/bruce/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share are not in the search path set by the XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable, so applications installed by Flatpak may not appear on your desktop until the session is restarted.

I do not use fish so I do not know how their confs work and couldn't find anything that wasn't in /home/username/ when this issue was first reported. Any fix we ship can not touch a users home directory.

I assume this affects snaps as well, I had to fix a similar issue years ago when using zsh on plasma.

Harvey sounds similar. I was able to fix it by updating the config.fish file. Found this on the Endeavour Forums and it worked for me.
set -l xdg_data_home $XDG_DATA_HOME ~/.local/share set -gx --path XDG_DATA_DIRS $xdg_data_home[1]/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share for flatpakdir in ~/.local/share/flatpak/exports/bin /var/lib/flatpak/exports/bin if test -d $flatpakdir contains $flatpakdir $PATH; or set -a PATH $flatpakdir end end

Brucehankins Glad you were able to find a solution! I see that the issue Harvey linked to also concerns Plasma. For my part, I'm using Budgie. So maybe there are in fact differences between Budgie/Gnome and Plasma on that front.

Well I looked with fresh eyes and I have a fix, just need to patch sddm and submit.

Awesome. Make sure you undo your fix from earlier first.

I did not bump the release number for this build on purpose. To ensure it downloads it again next sync in case any changes are made between now and then, without you needing to do anything else.

EDIT: Testing complete, link removed.

Click above link -> click the download button on the top right of that page. -> Save the .eopkg to your drive -> Navigate via the command line to whatever directory you saved it to then run:

sudo eopkg it sddm-0.19.0-29-1-x86_64.eopkg

Now you can reboot and hopefully everything works fine.

If there are any problems and you wish to switch back to the version currently in stable you can run:
sudo eopkg it --reinstall sddm

Harvey Looks like it works. Removed the config changes, restart, installed package and restart, then installed some new flatpaks and they showed up right away.
