Is GNOME still viable?

I've kept a Budgie VM on my Plasma laptop for a long time, just to keep in touch with my first love, and to double-check any advice that I might offer someone about Budgie. Today I added a MATE VM, and attempted to create one for GNOME, but this is as far as I got with that.

When I created the VM, I provided more resources than the minimum, and used the VBoxSVGA display type. The error occurs when I click on the icon to install the system. There's no delay ... just an instant error.

I'm posting this in case there's an issue that someone needs to take a look at. If GNOME simply doesn't like VMs, that's okay with me. Of all the DEs, GNOME is the one that interests me the least.

Agghhh ... after I clicked [Log Out] and signed back in as Live User, I clicked the [Install OS] button again and this time it worked. At least, it started; I haven't actually finished installing it yet, but I'm expecting it to work this time.

Kinda like a tooth that stops hurting as soon as you get to the dentist's office.

Agghhh again ... in the time it took me to post that message saying that it was now working, it displayed the same error message again. This time, I'm just going to delete the VM and its resources.
