rrfss If you are a bit technical, you can do packaging. It is not hard and you'll learn many valuable things for a developer like building from source, patching software, team working, collaborating with upstream, etc. Also you'll discover plenty of applications since you have to test your packages.

I sincerely appreciate everything that the Solus folks have done. I have been testing Linux distros since around 2004 while with the hope of finding one that is good enough to use fulltime (or even more than a day or two). I finally found one, and have now been using it for about six months: Solus.

How does that differ from Solus? If you don't reboot after an update, the changes aren't used until you do.

[unknown] Really? I've been misled for a very long time, then. If that's true, then I agree that Neon has a better idea. I've always rebooted after an update, and thought it was necessary to begin using the upgraded packages.

So, pretty much like updating DLLs in Windows. If I'd thought it through a bit better, I might have realized that it probabaly works that way. I'm now more likely to reboot after an update when I'm not busy, rather than dropping everything immediately in order to do that immediately.

Too bad this happened now (i'm Solus users since 4.0 and love it and i use it as main drivers last 8 months now) , i know that the "weight" of Solus goes on your soulders but the question is the transition from GTK to EFL is still a think? anyway keep up the good work 😄

Last year we donated $100.oo to Solus and would do so again this year.
What I remember, the funds went to "Open Collective" and not to Solus.

Why is Solus using the "Open Collective" as the receivership for donations?
Are they taking a cut and if so why not use another funding source??

I find the "Open Collective" suspect and do not care for them being
a transfer agent.

They are collecting 5% of each dollar donated. 8% up to a 500,ooo.
This just to transfer monies?? Their fees are worse than credit card
transactions.

The Solus Foundation is being rip-off.

These are all valid questions about funding Solus. I assume that the Open Collective provides services to Solus that would cost them far more to do on their own. Credit cards charge retailers less than it would cost most of them to fund their own credit departments, for example. And provide lots more customers with the ability to buy on credit from them.

But it would be great to have these questions answered, especially after the loss of Budgie development. Just what is Solus' current situation, @DataDrake? Is my assumption that Open Collective is still a net benefit to Solus still correct?

plastic because of the large profit from balances. Most retailers also markup every item 1 to 3% to cover the
cost of plastic.

As they say, this item has free shipping, after you pay for it.

For me best way to donate would be crypto. I'm doing already for other projects and XRP is awesome and so cheap.

My concern would be volatility ... this morning the news indicated that a Bitcoin is now worth about half what it was a few months ago. Also, "crypto" isn't legal tender anywhere. Paying the Solus bills might be a bit difficult.
