Flatpak question?

Thanks for checking that. I'm confused by the different version series. 41.0 and 3.38.0 don't sound like they're versions of the same application that are just a year apart. I did ask for 3.38 when queried GNOME, to find out how recent it was, and I should have also queried 41.0.

I couldn't believe they were recent builds of the same thing, the numbers being so different. Seemed like 3.38 should have been really ancient, or they were two different applications. Maybe one a fork of the other. That's why I asked who released it. 😄

Yeah. this makes it pretty clear.

And I'm beginning to disbelieve my memory of the additional features in 3.38. I was doing a web search for software to allow me to do some in-home surveillance with one of my web cams, and I could have been confusing Cheese features with another application's features.

This surveillance project exceeded its value to me about an hour ago, so I'm going to move on now. Thanks again for helping me to figure out the oddness in the versioning. Apologies for the distraction!

I have three go-to packages in all this debris that I use regularly: zoom, ungoogled, and jitsi. (the rest are just deps).
They've worked flawlessly and continue to do so. My point? Trust the flatpaks--you just ran into a lemon. Chalk it up.

kyrios Hi kyrios---truth be told I've always liked/preferred standalone apps over browser-based, web-integrated apps. Personal preference; I'm sure the functionality of both modalities (is that the right word?) is equal.

merry xmas geek. to anyone reading I can confirm Wetgeek is absolutely correct and this is not an isolated problem.
I was unable to launch zoom today (the web app was fine) with my family for an hour (of troubleshooting) and I did all the stuff I suggested you do plus more. Now I fully see what you are saying.
My standalone Zoom package is updated and dead, in the menu, and will not run under any method.

It's either
1) something the flatpak peeps are now doing? or
2) something different in the way the flatpak program talks to Solus?

I gave up trying to get Zoom to work properly, flatpak or otherwise. I just pulled out the old T420 and installed windows. Nice excuse to keep the T420 as well 🙂

riffer Do you need zoom specifically? I've been using whereby.com for years, pretty much every day. Works from browser on desktop, and has app on mobile. I've been eyeing T420 as a backup/replacement for my T60. :-) I might just get T1000 instead, liquid metal tech. 😆

Unfortunately, all my buddies/family aren't as tech savvy as me. It was hard enough getting zoom setup with them. T1000- The indestructible laptop 🙂

I'm with elfprince ... your buddies don't NEED to be as tech savvy as you. With whereby, even YOU don't need to be as tech savvy as you. All your buddies need to do is open a browser and navigate to an address.

You need to go to whereby.com and open an account. They're free, trivial to set up, and whereby does not sell your information to advertisers. Only the host (you) needs to have an account. Your buddies don't need to know anything except how to use a browser.

Flatpak Zoom won't run....Snap Zoom won't install....battin .1000 here....sigh🙁

@WetGeek we both had the identical dead flatpak experience so please forgive me pushing the issue on your own thread about Cheese; my apologies.

zmaint WetGeek in the interests of this particular non-functioning flatpak (and snap) called Zoom, I'm giving up on Flatseal and Flatpak and Snap. I've checked out.
The appimage is functional and Zoom's own .targz binary standalone program is functional. I need to find a way to connect either via browser's to Solus' open-xdg or zoom-mtg but I will soon enough.

@WetGeek : maybe the Cheese you want exists in these two options as well?

FYI guys if you're having permission issues with Flatpak apps, install Flatseal. I had issues with Chromium not letting me upload files to my web email client and also not letting me download anything.

I have zoom flatpak installed (have not updated this week yet, I usually wait until Wednesday to do all updates) and it still works fine.

zmaint it's interesting you refer to our flatpaks not launching as a permissions problems. I had not considered that. I will try the Flatseal and report back. thanks for the tip,

zmaint so what am I doing with this app? Simply allowing everything and flipping switches (half of which are greyed out). Thank you.

For my issue, I guessed it was file permissions. I started in that section. I had to give it access to /home and also the path to a mounted removable drive that I keep all my work stuff on.

Also if it helps, I've use chromium about a year ago and don't recall having to do this to get it to work. Anecdotal at best, but may be related.
