Can't add my Canon Pixma TS205 printer

I have an issue with my Canon Pixma TS205 printer.

I can't add it in "System settings / Printers / Add", it's not on le list of theCanon Pixma Printers (and there are a lot)) and the attemps to get the printer through ppd files do not work.

Any suggestions ?

Is it a printer you can access via WiFi? If so, you may be able to turn it ON and search for it with the Printers setting (depending on which DE you're using). That worked for my Pixma.

Of the single canon driver package in the repo, your TS is not supported of course...

https://dev.getsol.us/T7966 this thread alludes to a semi-famous canon TS driver package called scangear-mp2. And shows a github link where it exists and can be compiled except the guy in that thread had some trouble. If you are savyy it's DIY. I'm not🙂. T7966 is a task that's been left up in the air for a year. Maybe you could add your voice.

Thanks Brent I will take a look to the link you provide me. I'm not really a tech guy (but not afraid of command-line) I will have a try. And yes I will add my voice. Any system should "recognize" ALL printers, scanners, smartphones, etc... It's a thing you cannot escape today . Some make it. I have let a Linux Mint on my laptop to be able to print (printer was recognized at 1st shot as I was able to download the .DEB file - but cannot do it in Solus ) which is somewhere useless. Here are the limits of Solus. :SAD

Solus is a ragtag army of like-minded global volunteers who are spitting out and curating printer and scanner as time, safety, and volunteers permit, and not a sponsored nation-state of 9-5 coders. What you see as 'sad' I see as 'almost there' and 'ambitious'🙂. It's independent and proud and not a fork so no-size deb fits all. Add your voice, that's how I got my drivers. As @WetGeek showed you, Solus forum people will always try to get you in the right direction asap. You are at a great adventure!

brent Hi Brent I'm an old man so sometimes my patience can reach (rapidly) its limilt 😄 but I'm in Solus because I saw its infinite possibilities of... simplicity. Now I have to marry it with my F§!!ck@g Canon printer TS 205 that I need (I've not tried my Canon scan either but one problem at a time is sufficient ) so I'm in the rear but following you 😁

You have to download other drivers.. Unpack it, go to that directory, open a terminal there and type
sudo cp -R ppd/*.ppd /usr/share/ppd/. You can install via http://localhost:631 in the thread or see if you can "System settings / Printers / Add" select the printer from the ts200 series

Hi Pomon, thanks I have tried (I've downloaded the file, extract them and open a terminal in the directory as you clearly wrote it) but nothing it's happening with 1st solution ?? Any precision I could have missed ???

Also, try to solve the print driver and scan plugin?driver? problem together. Get a functioning unit. It's doable. I think.

I cracked open all three packages (deb rpm & source) at canon, and they all look like this. I cracked open the 2 deb packages inside (in pink) and could find no .ppd file. Also I've never configured a printer with that online localhost:631 stuff before (and succeeded). Maybe a tutorial in order from anyone? Lemme re-read Josh's instructions for this printer on that other thread. If he had success with his Canon TS then I see no reason we probably can too. I remember him saying it was a PITA.

Is the printer visible when connected? Show: ls /usr/share/ppd | grep ts200. Maybe try to install system-config-printer and install a printer

If you are sure the Ts200.ppd will work for the TS205....(maybe?)
then maybe the command is
cd /home/Alban/Downloads (if driver pack in downloads and Alban is system name)
then
sudo cp canon source/cnijfilter2-source-5.50-1/ppd/canonts200.ppd /usr/share/ppd/?
(assuming package is in downloads, and package extracted to a folder called canon source)

anyway maybe I'm complicating this. will read strobl canon ts install thread again later and report back. dinner time awaits
