I'm personally not on FB, Twitter or similar and have kind of felt it's been pretty nice not using social media (depending on if you don't count YouTube and this forum etc. as some sort of social media). With that said I've still wondered if it could be implemented in a good way and ended up signing up to a Mastodon instance. It's all right and I've found a few interesting things to follow. The federated page (compared to the local or personal feeds) can be a bit wild sometimes, but I guess that's the price of a decentralized platform.
I've been considering going deeper into selfhosting and wondering a bit about different options for selfhosting a social media site. Anybody got some recommendations why you like certain options more than others, experiences etc? Mastodon? Pleroma? Diaspora?
