Very slow boot and program start

craigtoyoracer you could be right, but that would be like saying loading times we 100% connected to hardware and never to software problems? or did I misread yo?. Also I don't consider any of George's commands hard drive benchmarking type things. Been wrong before🙂

brent No you are right, for hdd testing use Smart in Disks. 😃

From those outputs you see nothing unusual anywhere actually, but the disk start and mount was smooth.

Symptoms are similar. Have you tried to boot using the previous kernel, or rollback those updates?

zmaint Thank you for the reply. I tried booting with the previous kernel, with no luck. I haven't tried to rollback, but I can't now becasue it doesn't boot at all (and I can't reinstall it from scratch right now)

skip2skp better try sudo journalctl --disk-usage and publish return. But time of boot is fast enough

craigtoyoracer Well, all the analyze etc commands are indicative of something for sure. I totally forgot we have smartmon tools and in gnome-disks you've mentioned----have used smart thru the years and still don't know how to interpret it: always ambiguous "old age" on the hardware🙂. Which according to the internets is a state between 'about to die' and 'fairly healthy.' Hard to pin down for sure!

I had the same problem. Updated yesterday at the end of the day, today slow boot, no audio devices (pipewire), programs take ages to start.

Rollback was successful and everything is fine again.

Update: I had to reinstall the system from scratch (more precisely, I did not know any other option), and the exact same issue arose.

I noticed that not all the programs take that long to open. Firefox and Thunderbird, as well as snaps, are the worst, but LibreOffice, Terminal, Software Center load quickly.

George running btm I don't find anything that seems to use an excessive amount of memory.
