Waking up my laptop causes a black screen once I open up the lid. The whole system locks up and I have to manually power it off and back on (which isn't very healthy for a computer). My laptop is a HP 255 G6 (AMD). Using kernel 4.20 works fine on the other hand, but Solus doesn't offer me to downgrade kernels. The LTS kernel has the same issue so that's not an escape option for me until the issue is resolved. I would appreciate any help getting Solus to run properly on this laptop.

Does this problem only persist when you're trying to wake it up by opening the lid? What about if you manually suspend the computer and trying to turn it on again?

You can try, in preferences/power, to disable dim screen on inactivity and black screen.

koyu For a temporary solution, can you go to the settings to make closing the lid do nothing?

it can, have you try disable lock screen after sleep?

I've been having a similar problem for about a week, and I'm not sure what the deal is. One thing I notice is that if I push the power button for just a short time it will turn the screen on (not long enough to power off). It may not be the same problem, or even the same option for your machine, but it made the problem easily livable for me.

sangheeta the same effect, but instead it returns to my desktop without being able to interact with something
websterkk that doesn't work for me
Fatih19 I could try that, but closing the lid for too long would cause the laptop to overheat

koyu Have you tried to move the cursor around while after opening the screen in which you said it has black screen?

Fatih19 nothing happens, seems like a complete lock up

Fatih19 The light is on when the screen is black. I'm not sure what happens with the button pushed. I'll check next time it happens.

websterkk My hypothesis to what happen is it just goes to sleep (that's what it's called on Windows) after a set amount of time. I experienced this back when I was using elementaryOS, I don't know if this applies to Solus though (although it should be a pretty universal thing).

The wife's DELL just started this a few days ago. She has the Dell with A8 AMD processor.

When powered on it goes through the wake up getting ready to do something process.
Gets to the Solus count down screen, does the count down to zero then goes to a black screen with a blinking line "cursor line" as if it was attempting to load into MS Dos.

websterkk I am having a similar issue with my HP Stream. Except when I hit the power after opening the lid the screen just flashes than nothing.
