Shotcut does not add video to the timeline

brent Thanks for the link. Yes, that's exactly the problem. I had Shotcut BEFORE reinstalling Solus and it was working. But after reinstalling the system - now it does not work. Apparently, something somewhere is a dependency problem. The program simply does not display the timeline, although it is "supposedly" there, but it is not.

You can click on the .mkv file in "Playlist", then drag & drop it into the empty timeline. This is normally how i do it, tested it just now to make sure that it still works, no issues here...

Looks like someone have reported a similar issue https://github.com/mltframework/shotcut/issues/1057

Think i would try moving the folder: /home/user/.local/share/Meltytech/Shotcut to a temp folder, and see what happens if you start Shotcut, it should just recreate a fresh version of the folder, and all the settings should be reset...

alexanderzhirov I would also try deleting this folder: /home/user/.cache/Meltytech/shotcut & /home/user/.config/Meltytech or rename the folder to .old while testing...

Update: Just tested it on my own system, renamed the Meltytech folder to Meltytech.old in .cache .config & .local/share, Shotcut start just fine and fresh Meltytech folders were created in .cache .config & .local/share, and Shotcut is back in the same state as when you first installed it. Hopefully that will solve your issue...

I'm surprised it's been a known bug for over 3 years.
Katoa ---i respect your kitchen sink approach--I try to troubleshoot with a broad net too. But I never write down what I eliminated and what worked so it's just as much fun next time🙂

Was going to suggest reinstalling, looking for broken packages or try an earlier version, but after reading "Shotcut seems to store the timeline information somewhere outside, so that even a clean reinstall didn't help.", that did not seem like the way to go.

Katoa I tried to do as you advised. Yes, the directories were automatically created, but still nothing has changed. The timeline is also not available. I don't even have icons like this user.

Flatpak and Snap always a box of chocolates as it were. A few times if Solus did not have app I was happy with the flatpak. Zoom for instance. Other times if Solus deprecated a package I liked a lot (like Gnome-Web, for instance)
the flatpak sucked compared to the curated version. If alexanderzhirov tries the Flatpak Shotcut and timeline issue is resolved that would be interesting (and good for OP).

brent Katoa I removed the installed program and installed it from Flatpack (I have Zoom installed from there and it works well). The version is installed on 21.09.20. The timeline is now displayed, and icons appeared above the timeline, everything seems to be working. But the "Open File" button and some menu items in the "Help" drop-down list do not work. Also the problem with scaling ... The interface is too huge.

I also observe a problem with connecting the module "canberra-gtk-module", although it is in the system.

also want to add if you search in devtracker above you can see the solus package was updated 4 days ago. Maybe it's that. If this is a new problem and you are running a solus package, file a "Bugs & Issues" ticket.

did you try ctrl+5 see if it wakes timeline up? or View->Layout->Restore Default Layout?

Got the same module "canberra-gtk-module" error, have seen that with other flatpaks, but it does not seem to cause any issues as far as i can tell.

it's a trade-off sometimes.
still would flle a bug report at dev tracker so maybe Solus can be made aware of this new change (timelines incomplete) in the package updated 5 days ago.

I dont run shotcut on linux but do on my mac 05-09 all seem to work ok on mac if I run View->Layout->Restore Default Layout it resets to 2 windows that I can resize to anything main window and timeline. (just info) Not sure how it acts on linux

Regarding the latest Shotcut flatpak release v21.09.20, one of the changes in the change log is:
"Fixed dragging to Timeline broken if there is MLT XML on the clipboard (broke v21.08.29)"
