Install Plasma alongside Budgie

The only safe way to do that is to install one in a virtual machine on the other system. My main laptop has Plasma installed, and on it it a VirtualBox VM with Budgie installed. One cannot interfere with the other, although the option to allow them to share a clipboard is often useful. (E.g., one can take a screen shot on Budgie and use Plasma to include it in a forum message.)

Note: The Plasma DE does absolutely everything I need. The reason for the Budgie VM is so that I can make sure I'm using the proper wording if I give someone advice on a Budgie menu or setting issue. And to check that my suggestion actually works on Budgie before I suggest it.

That's because there's a ton of overlapping functionalities/backend services/applications that are simply not meant to coexist with one another.

The last time I did this successfully without using a VM was on openSUSE. All the packages needed for all the available DEs were listed in categories named for the DE, in the list of available packages. Multiple DEs could be easily installed at a time, and one of them chosen at login time.

I never had a conflict doing that, but after trying other DEs, I pretty much settled on Plasma, and stayed there.
