Workspaces

As someone who has no idea how workspaces really work: I think they are just visibly disconnected, but otherwise not boxed off. Case in point, I just used "xprop" from a terminal window in one workspace to query the details of a window in a separate workspace.

Workspaces are awesome for people like me who don't have multiple monitor setup.

So far I've never had a need for multiple workspaces. I have a terminal with one or more tabs, one or two browsers, possibly kate, maybe telegram open on a daily basis, and that's about it.

elfprince I, however, liked to use even 6 workspaces instead of minimizing or switching windows on the taskbar.

h3o Thanks....although I do not need to alt + tab across workspaces, I will check the settings. I am very familiar with workspaces and actually ,the pseudo sandbox helps me better organize my workflow. More curious than anything else.

MattX I’m a 5 workspace kinda guy and name each workspace

I like to open my favorite music player on the 2nd workspace and I use mouse shortcuts to quickly switching between workspaces. Love them! 🙂
And also that smooth sliding switching animation is so nice!

jppelt I'm still waiting for a tool that sets the app to open in specific workspace with ability to open everything you want in the workspaces you want with one click (multi app launcher thing). I'm pretty sure it's possible to create a script that does that, but I'm not very good at making scripts.

MattX I think you have to wait for budgie-extras release 1.3 (currently at beta2 version).
There budgie-window-shuffler has been reworked and now have the option to open application windows on specific workspaces by using the new feature window rules.

Love workspaces use 5 steady, keeps things organized especially when working on multiple projects.
By setting a pinned tab in each browser they will auto start in to separate spaces. The other apps open in #1.

I love them, too. I have 9 on my main laptop, and couldn't imagine using a computer without any. Of my 9, one has a Windows VM, for times when I have to run Windows-only apps. That one has 5 Windows 10 workspaces. 🙂

So, I not only use workspaces ... I use workspaces inside a workspace.
