Problem with intel gpu

to be honest, i have never heard about anyone installing a propreitary driver for an Intel gpu... are you sure your the gpu is really intel? maybe it could also be that you mistook it for nvidia? 🤔

now even if a propreitary driver for intel gpu's exists, why would anyone want to use it when there are open source mesa drivers available?

i am interested to see how others in the community respond to this.

It's definitely worth double-checking. My laptop CPu is an Intel i7, but its GPU is Nvidia. Confusion would be easy.

[deleted] yeah sure, i pick my laptop only with intel gpu, but all system what i install thinks that i have mx250 videocard and i can install driver for that gpu which is what I used to do 🙂

Uhh, You don't need to install any Intel drivers on Solus. That's more likely to break your system than anything else.

Very much looks like you have both Intel and Nvidia GPU's. https://laptopmedia.com/laptop-specs/lenovo-ideapad-s530/ You'd want to game with Nvidia for performance, and use the Intel for battery life.

I've never used switching graphics on Solus, hopefully someone here that is more knowledgeable can point you ion the right direction.

Then you probably have one. It looks like there are dozens of IdeaPad S530 models that have an Nvidia MX250.
Running inxi -G would say one way or the other.

If you do have the second Nvidia card, that's a surefire way lol. As for Intel graphics, there are no faster drivers than the ones we ship from Mesalib. Intel stopped developing their proprietary drivers in favor of contributing to Mesa.

funny but I always thought it was a bug that linux systems suggested that I install a proprietary driver, well, now I'm going to look for ways to control overheating

xonus If the kernel has enumerated that card, it exists lol. There are a lot of S530 models in PSREF that are Intel only, but quite a few have Nvidia graphics. Our driver installer will pick up the Nvidia card and recommend installing those drivers. But there's nothing to install for Intel. Mesa is a required part of any modern Linux system.

If OP has any other GPU than integrated Intel there would be some stickers on his laptop bragging about it. 😅

My friend has some Lenovo Ideapad with NVidia GPU and there's a shiny NVidia sticker of course.

MattX Not necessarily. Could be aftermarket with the stickers removed. Maybe they removed the stickers without paying attention to them. Maybe it didn't come with stickers at all (my Thinkpad A485 was like this). We try not to make assumptions like that here because you never know.

inxi -G clearly shows two graphics controllers so it has already been 100% confirmed.
