"Preferred" Method of Updating?

Girtablulu I am one of the least tech proficient members of the forum, by far, but...the more I use the terminal, the easier everything becomes. I really appreciate the tips. Thanks!

moore-bryan I use sudo eopkg up and flatpak update in the terminal weekly (Sunday). I think that there are two advantages to using the terminal rather than the Software Center: (1) terminal updates are verbose so that I can see what is going on during the update; and (2) if something does go wrong during the update, I can see what has gone wrong and restart the update process easily.

I've added alias up="sudo eopkg up && flatpak update" to my .bashrc file for sheer laziness of typing. ;-)

Yup... I'm a little old school and don't "touch" files, so I fire up nano to edit ~/.bashrc and add that line—i.e., alias up="sudo eopkg up && flatpak update at the end of it; I then run sudo up whenever I want to update/upgrade everything.

You have set the alias to already use sudo. There is no need to type sudo again..

Another set I use:

alias ed='sudo eopkg delete-cache && sudo journalctl --vacuum-time=3d --vacuum-size=50M && sync'

I love EOPKG, best package manager out there IMO.

I like the software center, would be a nice addition to be able to see what the installer is doing kinda like pamac has. You can click to see it, or just leave it hidden.

I like to update via CLI. But all of the friends/family who I have that use Solus (which is a ton) I have just use the software center. I made an "update" bash alias that handles flatpak and snap updates for them.

zmaint Agreed. Ideally the GUI would be just as powerful and reliable as the CLI. Unfortunately that isn't the case at the moment for the Software Center.
