Ungoogled-chromium (or Librewolf)

Hello, I'm trying to find a way to install Ungoogled Chromium on Solus (or Librewolf if that isn't available.) Neither are in the official repos / software center. They both offer appimages on their websites but I don't want to have to go manually redownload for updates. Basically I'm looking for a way to install either Ungoogled Chromium or Librewolf and have it be updatable along with the other apps on my OS. Is there a way I can add a repo or something to manage/update them via Software Center?
Has anyone else successfully installed Ungoogled Chromium or Librewolf on Solus?

[deleted] Let me second @mw42815 's advice to get the flatpak. Librewolf was not in flatpak a couple months ago when I started using it. I do not---as a personal code---operate outside solus repo/flat/snap unless I was really curious about the app which I was. (thanks for the heads up).

Can only speak for librewolf. The appimage is fine. It's in my /downloads folder, it's a standalone app, and I doubleclick it to use libre. I must warn you that it's based on way outdated firefox so many newer about:config settings are not there. They disabled all telemetry and murdered (heh) pocket. Disabled cut and paste. It's a nifty browser, small footprint, secure as sh*t, and is made for reading.
I liked it.
But stopped using it cause I didn't need anything that fortressy and what I did like I learned how to change in the solus Firefox anyway.
Also: I remember a couple threads about ungoogled chrome recently. Use search function upper right.

taylor4ado Librewolf can be downoaded as a flatpak .. search using google for flatpak on Solus OS . follow the directions. once Flatpak support is installed you can install Librewolf if you still want too . Brent is correct regarding Librewolf as it is indeed a fork of Firefox and is based on Firefix extended service edition which is currently version 78 i believe. i could be wrong. as far as ungoogled chromium goes you can install it as a snap package. snap support is preinstalled in Solus . just type snap install ungoogled-chromium in the terminal app and follow the prompts. you may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect . good luck.

tayler 4ado one more thing . if you want to have a gui for snap you can also install the Snap Store by typing snap install snap-store in the terminal app . follow the prompts . once installed a new entry in the app menu called Snap Store will appear. launch it and then clicl on the desired app then click install button. it will ask for your password. type it in the dialog box . you should find your snap apps in the app menu in the appropriate category.

I was under the impression the Snap/flatpak methods were just ways to do a quick local install of app packages, I assumed I would have to constantly be checking manually for updates myself. Ungoogled and Heroic (Epic) Launcher are the only apps I need that aren't in the main repos. Honestly I'm probably the last person who needs such a fortressy browser like Librewolf or Ungoogled but I like the peace-of-mind they provide, and the superficial idea that it makes me feel like I'm getting the most out of my Linux installation. No autoupdates for either on Windows/Mac, for some reason. But I think I'll go with Ungoogled considering development seems much quieter on Libre's side, I can hardly find people talking about or using it.
I'm here from a broken Arch install after 2 months (6/7/21 - 8/9/21 RIP). I exclusively used yay via terminal to install and update everything, in an effort to keep it stable. Guess it didn't work out in the end. But honestly finding out Snap Store has its own GUI to handle such things resolves my concerns. I'll stick with Software Center & Snap Store. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction (& apologies for the naivety 🙂)

For whatever reason, LibreWolf doesn't show up in the search results on FlatHub if you just search for "wolf", "libre" or "libre wolf".

You only get a result if you search exactly for "LibreWolf".

In contrast you do get results for Chromium and ungoogled-chromium if you just search for "chrome" on there even tho the word "chrome" doesn't even appear in the application name or on the description page anywhere ...

tyler4tado your very welcome and welcome to Solus ! I hope you find it to your liking and needs. I myself came to Solus from Manjaro which is Arch based so I understand your situation as i had a similar one . you do have to update snap and flatpak packages you install manually. the commands to do so in Solus via terminal are as follows :

snap - snap refresh and enter your password then follow prompts

flatpak - flatpak update and follow prompts

I should have probably titled this post "are there other package managers besides software manager available for solus" it would have saved lots of meandering on my end 😛

For some reason ungoogled from Snapstore gave me issues, something to do with no-sandbox flags causing bugs and opening new instances each time. The snap page for it even mentions it. Apparently the way around it is to use the flatpak version. Installed flatpak and installed ungoogled there and this version works fine.

I'll take the advice to stick with the trinity only (eopkg primarily & flatpak/snap) and update them once a week or so. On arch I simply used "yay" command and that handled it all at once- if only there was such a command on Solus to upgrade everything but I'm still learning.

Solus was always my fallback option if Arch broke, which I kinda expected it to. I had Solus 4.2 on a USB stashed away and it saved my PC so I'm here to stay. And if it breaks, I break my PC lol
