Yeah, unlike Windows, Linux is a multi-user operating system. It's pretty important that it knows who you are, and allows you to do things, and access things that you're authorized to. Thus, it needs to know whom you are.
I'm pretty sure that putting off Linux for a while was best for you. You might want to concentrate on Windows instead, at least until you're a little older. It's nothing to be ashamed of ... Linux is a great OS, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. When you're ready to give it another try, folks will be here to help you with it.
