Solus freezing after being away from the computer?

If I dont use my computer for a period of time my whole de freezes. Typically if I'm away for more than a couple hours this happens but solus works perfectly fine as long as I'm by the computer. Any ideas on what this could mean?

Take a screenshot of your Power window in Settings (budgie) or explain where you have the three key settings I guess--seems the logical place to start to moi.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear--- the three settings in your picture were the "key" ones I was talking about. You showed it.
These 'key' settings are identical to my settings. I don't do screen saver, sleep, hibernate, wake up, or any of that stuff so....there is no reason I can think of for this freeze behavior...

If I walk away 2 minutes or 2 hours nothing changes. The only thing I can think of is you brought in a life-sucking app like baloo onto your system. It's an indexer that's crippled my budgie everytime I tried to play with Dolphin.
You gotta find a way to log what happens right before the freeze. Then you will know.

ok I see, what can I use for logging (I'm rly new to linux win11 pushed me over the edge)? I never heard of baloo but I do have dolphin installed, I'm guessing baloo doesnt come with dolphin since I do not have any instance of it

baloo is the indexer that is married to dolphin asfaik.
FunnyBoneE if you are running budgie then this is likely the problem. dolphin belongs on plasma and before I get scolded for saying that it's just like my opinion, man🙂

edit: you can see this behavior in System Monitor or htop in the terminal
if you have gnome or plas or mate then I don't know, all I know is budgie

Just figured I would chime in and mention I have run into the same issue of freezes on two seperate machines since the 4.3 update.

The issue happened first on my Lenovo X201T and my Dell Precision T1600. Like FunnyBonE I don't use baloo and frankly this is the first time I have even heard of that app and I have been a linux user since the Windows Vista fiasco. Still trying to troubleshoot. It seems really random and inconsistent when it happens. I wanted to mention it because this might not be an isolated incident.

I can uninstall dolphin and see how that goes. Frankly its really rare, I had more problems on windows 10 so this isn't killing me lmao

FunnyBoneE Uninstall is a start but it could literally be 34 more things.
Its funny (not haha) how the frequency of a problem effects different users. When I had dolphin (why did I keep experimenting with it version after version of budgie?) baloo swallowed up resources to the point I could barely drag a mouse.

FunnyBoneE I had more problems on windows 10 so this isn't killing me lmao

do you have a AMD Grafikcard? So this is a known issue then, but should be discussed on Github

Chrym I do on my desktop (RX 570) but not my laptop (X201T with Intel graphics) and unlike FunnybonE I am not using Dolphin.

after uninstalling dolpin I haven't noticed any freezing so for now I think that fixed it 😃

Update: After a couple days I got a freeze leaving GNOME web open while I went out to buy food. I was only gone half an hour 🙁

FunnyBoneE Might try to check for broken packages. https://getsol.us/articles/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/en/
sudo eopkg check then if it shows anything broken do sudo eopkg check | grep Broken | awk '{print $4}' | xargs sudo eopkg it --reinstall

If this is a fairly new install, it is possible the ISO was corrupted. I'd suggest re-downloading the ISO, verifying the checksum, then burning with something like Balena Etcher that will confirm the USB image also matches.

I've had bad ISO's do very similar things with Solus and on a lot of other distros. Very hard to try and trouble shoot to check.

I've had the same issues with my HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor.

First I blamed YouTube because the freezes seemed to happen when I would pause a video and the computer would enter sleep mode. Then, I noticed that it still happened (or didn't happen), regardless of what is running.

Today, for example, I woke it up from sleep to see the clock frozen at 8:26 PM from yesterday. It wasn't being used. It had gone to sleep with no programs running on the desktop. The mouse moves, but the desktop is otherwise unresponsive.
Like always, I used the keyboard (Ctrl-Alt-F_) to open a TTY, login, and reboot.

Works fine while it's being actively used (in this case as a HTPC) but completely unreliable for anything critical. It's definitely a sleep issue because I have the same problem with another Lenovo SFF which is flawless so long as it never sleeps, but randomly has the same desktop lockups when sleep is allowed.

Both formerly ran Windows just fine.

Anyway, because they're being used as media players it's just an annoyance, but it does prevent me from taking Solus seriously as a daily driver for my work machines.

zmaint Thanks! I tried this on both PCs. The HP Compaq did have two broken packages (one TTF, and an Nvidia firmware package which isn't used) which were reinstalled, but the Lenovo which has the same freezing problems had none.
I'll see if there's any improvement with the HP.

toddlyons Again, if these are fairly new installs you may be running into a corrupted ISO. I've had to re-download ISO's multiple times over the years installing distros. One I had to do 7 times to get one that pass a checksum.
