New Solus 4.3 is great. Have selected the Gnome-distro.

Only cups is conflicting with HP-plugin and with HP-setup ... when I want to remove cups then there are too many wide-spread "package-dependencies". (has this to do with Java and Python packages ?)

DirtyAngel Idk what you're trying to do but if you're trying to install a HP printer you shouldn't remove CUPS as hplip depends on it. Can't recall if hplip is installed out of the box but if it isn't then just install it via eopkg.

You can add your printer either from command line by running hp-setup or with the HP Device Manager. It should prompt for the binary plugin if needed and if it doesn't you can just run hp-plugin. It should ask for your user password at some point.

Note that there is a patch pending which should make using hplip much less terrible https://dev.getsol.us/D11194

ASFAIK cups is a necessary part of the solus environment--native and not to be removed. Someone tell me if I'm wrong (I often am).
I never seen an hplips conflict with anything. You have hp repo packages installed? Or other? What do you mean by 'conflicting'? Do you have an error message in terminal?
This would put the average forum troubleshooter on firmer footing. Forgot to say welcome!

Hi Brent and the entire team !!
I think it is only a matter of file-permission in area of gnome-settings ? something like chmod might be there wrong setted ?
hp-plugin does not work as sudo and not without sudo either ?
hp-plugin is installing driver - yes - but gnome-settings for printer (after switching free with password) cannot add printer ?!
It seems to be similiar like it was the same trouble in Ubuntu years ago ? (or HP himself did set chmod wrong ?)

Yea ... probably only a thing about file-permissions ... ? But M$ was reporting too about a 16 year old bug at HP-printer-driver-setup ... (nothing to do with Linux).

I have never seen an instance, if I'm understanding this correctly, that Solus sees a printer in the Print Settings window but refuses to add it.
Unless it's just not seeing printer at all?
What's the model #?
If it is a permissions thang does anyone have a terminal command for this person to try to confirm? (I do not).

Then let run installing packages with command :

Now I test if printer runs ... ( I fear it is still a thing with chmod permissions somewhere ... in gnome-settings) ...

this all looks like a pyrotechnics show🙂. This is a black and white inkjet. Likely you don't need to install cups-devel packages. why would it be asking for sane-devels as well? I'm not convinced from your hp doctor that you have cups installed. all these packages the 'doctor' claims you are missing makes no sense for an efficient printer like this.
If you are new to Solus, then simply do no more harm. I've borked my own OS several times when I was learning it. Start fresh. The only thing you may have to install is hplips and nothing else. Then try again. I didn't even see anything about a driver in that log...
...I hope someone sees this log with a more informed POV than my own. Would be better if someone could offer a second opinion. Plus I don't own an HP.

I Have a 90's hp laser 2100 still kicking all I did was install hplip was little tricky getting it not to print garabage
just because it was so old finally got it to work it even printed garbage in windows at times so it wasnt linux but I use it all the time. I didnt see the p1006 listed in hplip website but maybe I miss it think its like the p1009 install hplip then search for printer from hplip it should show up on left side. you have to have hplip running to use printer i think mine loads auto. https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index with just usb shouldnt have any problems been awhile since I installed it going from memory. I found the p1009 in hplist havent the p1006 I think it might be throwing some those errors for scanning or printer isnt installed (dunno not sure) you got do it from hplip!!

Yes, Brent ... it looks like pyrotechnics ... I know.
It seems in the end to be an issue with libusb (version 1.0 or version 1.2 ?) - as I see libusb is not completed at github. sudo hp-setup is now refused here and only sudo hp-plugin is allowed - but then hp-printer after recognition is simply not added in gnome-settings. Apparently libusb is still missing in Solus 4.3 - have not tested yet in Solus-Budgie or in Solus-Mate for I don't know if this is only an issue with Gnome ?! So, lets be patient for libusb of github.

You can see in these two threads that the install of this package (in repo) cured two Samsung printer problems.
Strange if it was HP, too, but I've seen stranger things.

Hmmm ... have installed libusb-compat then and then hp-setup and hp-plugin went suddenly okay.
But adding printer in gnome-settings was still refused.
I found workout after googling. It is in terminal then simply :

system-config-printer

This then went okay. And printer is then added finally.
Sorry for in this thread fussing a bit around.
This thread is then solved.

Yes - I know. I did not remove CUPS. But I fought over two weeks with the printer and its set-up ...
Even Yoga and headstand did not help until I found this command : system-config-printer
which made all attempts from before ... unnecessary again ...
