Telegram freezing while downloading files

Hi!
Yesterday I updated my system and Telegram got updated to version 2.8.4-153. Since the update, every time I try to download a file (I click on download, select the place to download the file and click on "Save") in the chat, Telegram gets frozen and unresponsive. The only way to stop the program is to kill it in the terminal.

Does anybody have the same problem?

rjuarezp I don't have this issue. Downloaded several files from telegram around 15-40 MB each and I didn't get any freeze of unresponsive behavior.

algent Well, I don't know... it might be only a problem in my computer... Something was changed in the last version, because before that, it was working properly... Argg!!! It's annoying... I tried to uninstall and install again Telegram but it is still happening.

I have also noticed that if I am playing music in my computer and I open Telegram, the music will get interrupted and continues when Telegram is opened. It only happens with this program...

Still having the trouble...

I removed the solus package and installed Telegram through Flatpak (also Telegram version 2.8.4). It works again!!!! There is definitely something wrong in the last version of the package...

If anybody has a hint, I would appreciate it!

rjuarezp I suggest to check for Broken packages by running this command:
sudo eopkg check | grep Broken | awk '{print $4}' | xargs sudo eopkg it --reinstall

Then delete old cache files related to telegram and then check mimeapps.list if there is something weird.
Full path of this file is .config/mimeapps.list.

algent Thanks! I already did it... It reinstalled ligthdm, nautilus-terminal and foomatic-db...

I have found, that there are two Telegram installations in my computer (although I have uninstalled the official Solus package). One is called "Telegram" (I don't know where is this coming from) and the other "Telegram Desktop".

The Flatpak package is "Telegram Desktop" but I don't know where "Telegram" is coming from. Is there a way to know which path the "Telegram" menu entry is referred to? I tried with right mouse click, but it is not working.

Are you sure you have an updated system? Try again sudo eopkg up -y to be safe.

If you have removed telegram installed from Solus Repo then the output of info command should be like this:

You can find it with menulibre. After installing it you can find it on "Menu" as "Menu Editor".
Run the program and search for "telegram"

Down in the bottom it will tell you where is that desktop file.

rjuarezp I installed both telegram from Software Center and from flatpak and they have the same name.

Probably at some point you have customized telegrams desktop file.

I checked that my system is up to date and that the telegram package is not installed (sorry, everything in spanish)

I also looked at the menu... It seems that the second telegram link ("Telegram") is just a link to google chrome...

But anyway, the Telegram package seems to have a problem with my system... I can live with the flatpak app... I will try the Telegram package in some months, after it gets updated again... Maybe then it will work again for me!

You can see in [Added Associations] section, at line number 8 there is:

x-scheme-handler/tg=userapp-Telegram Desktop-I05ZV0.desktop.

Not sure if that is needed. I think you can try to delete it.

Make sure you delete that telegram desktop file from chrome.

@rjuarezp Can you give this eopkg a try? Your issue has been reported upstream as this and I've added the patches to 2.8.4.

You can install it with sudo eopkg it ./telegram-2.8.4-153-1-x86_64.eopkg
