There are way too many forks right now, Many of them maintained by a single person. At this point it is difficult to determine what is trustworthy and what isn't. In the long run, it seems clear that this new company is probably not the best steward of the product if you are privacy conscious.
However, given that they haven't actually done anything overly problematic yet and there not being a clear alternative, I think it would premature to switch. For my personal use, I am waiting until one of the forks becomes broadly maintained and makes itself the obvious choice.
