This applies to both Solus Dark and Light themes in Plasma for Solus 4.3. The Application Launcher widget looks odd. Are the header and footer supposed to be blue?

ximbietc Are the header and footer supposed to be blue?

I think yes as I think @Girtablulu has updated the theme to have blue headers in plasma applets and I think all applets use the same settings and headers. This is maybe the reason why the header and footer is blue 🤔. To be honest, I kinda like it.

ximbietc no this is intentionally at the moment, I may tweak it a bit but sofar you are the only one who came forward reg this.

I liked how it was before. Personally, I find the blue too distracting and it clashes with the near-black / white of the dark and light themes. Only with a blue wallpaper I thought it looked good (this launcher + widgets), but I hardly ever look at my wallpaper.

I think this change would work better if Plasma offered users a way to change or at least tint theme colors.

This is just my opinion, though.

ximbietc this seems to be an issue on the engine, still need to report this upstream

      Girtablulu

I hesitated to post because I know how much work goes into designing a theme and that no matter you do somebody will be dissatisfied. But I thought I would share an opinion and please feel free to do with it what you will. 😆

It isn't only the color which makes it jarring, it is perceptual differences in transparency. I am not sure if the transparency levels are different or if the colors just make it seem that way but transitioning from a transparent panel to a nearly opaque blue and back into a transparent area is part of what it makes it feel so drastic.

Girtablulu I tuned it down a bit

        Woah, this looks better. 👍

I am also surprised knowing that with all this much customization options kde plasma has, yet it still doesn't have an option to do this or even change the accent color.

I was wondering why those blue accent lines all of a sudden appeared. At least now I know why... I went in and changed to a different "plasma style" and they are now black again.

I wrote a rather lengthy reply about why I disagreed with the implementation of blue on the start menu. However if it is a theming style that can be changed by the user without much effort then that changes how I feel.

@Girtablulu The blue on the start menu is a nice style choice as long as it can be changed. My feelings would have been different if it wasn't easily customized though.

Is it supposed to change for existing installs? Mine did not change. Not complaining I prefer no accents. Fresh install on my laptop has it tho.

Plasma theming is... special. Enable menu / panel transparency and you'll change theme 800x for it to actually apply your setting, then it randomly drops it like it has again for me.

            EDIT:
Typical, switch to light theme and back again and now I have the accent colours. 👍
            EDIT2:
Got transparency back, but when you have a window maximised on that screen transparency goes away

Harvey Is it supposed to change for existing installs? Mine did not change

Mine did change, I got the update this morning.

dalto you can never please everyone 🙂

reg the blur, I'd love to have it the same blur but that's not possible as far as I can see (unless there is sone voodoo magic which can be done) as it works right now, first the black area gets rendered via panel-background and on top of this gets the plasmaoidheader added, so this causes the issue with the lack of blur.

I have to be careful with the opacity level because it suddenly turns into a diff color because the dark area behind it starts coming through etc.

jrsilvey no bad feelings, the theme function could need a rewrite you have tones of legacy stuff no one really knows anymore how this stuff works and they dont wanna touch it, so yea for me is most of the time hey and error and look at the breeze stuff how it may work.

I know plasma devs are working on a function to set your own colors in a more simple way but when this is ready I dont know

Apparently this is called "Adaptive Transparency". If you do not like this and want it always transparent you can set it to "Translucent". See this video:

that weird border around the kickoff menu is now fixed in unstable, you may have to remove .cache folder in home and restart plasmashell (plasmashell --replace & ) to load it correctly.

And if you do not like the opaque turning of the pannel, check @Harvey linked video how to deactivate it

              2 months later

Yesterday I installed Solus Plasma, everything was fine until I run my first full system upgrade and I noticed that the solus-dark plasma style (the theme that affects the panel and widgets) is missing the mouse hover effect (blue background highlight), as shown in this video:

Note that the light theme is working fine. That highlight effect is also applied when navigating with the keyboard arrows, its very difficult to navigate without a visual feedback. The bug also affects hidden icons in the system tray and the alternative application menus.
