Solus thinks hdd is faulty

Upgraded my 2 devices with Solus KDE and both started showing warning about storage devices. I opened Partition Manager, checked Smart status and both drives are fine. What can be the cause pf this behaviour?

I got a similar warning after I updated my laptop. It was a day from hell, and I don't remember the exact order of problems, or where among those problems the message appeared, but it was essentially the same. It warned that the SSD in the laptop had problems, but not yet reflected by SMART. But apparently potential problems.

I removed the Plasma SSD from the machine and replaced it with an earlier Budgie SSD that I'd replaced with the Plasma version. Since I suspected that Plasma SSD, when I again returned to Plasma on this laptop, I did a fresh install on an empty SSD (part of my day from hell) and spent most of the day installing software and configuring everything.

With the same warning appearing to others, I now suspect that there's nothing at all wrong with the suspect SSD, but it's now just a spare.

lorand check with smartctl via terminal to be 100% sure, do not ignore these kind of infos and have a backup ready

lorand Same happened for my friend using Solus Plasma. SMART data shows no reallocated sectors or read errors. The extended SMART test comes out clean.

Both drives are new so I'm 99,9999% sure that drives are okay. Funny thing is, I have ssd in my laptop too and there is no warning for it, only for hdd in ultrabay caddy. Second device running Solus also shows warning and I only use hdd on it.

Yeah, it looks like a KDE issue.

I had similar warning yesterday.
I assumed it's not my drives fault but kde so I installed budgie for now.

I wouldn't ignore those message. Use smartctl to ensure the values are safe.
No need to install Budgie. Budgie doesn't show a message when SMART reports errors. That's why you don't get it there.
This feature got integrated into plasma with this update I think, but @Girtablulu surely knows more.

Girtablulu Everythings okay, warnings started after the last update to Plasma 5.22.

In response to the error message, I installed another empty SSD, installed Plasma on it, added applications, configured settings, and ran the same set of upgrades. After all that, I did not see the message again. If it were just a false positive because of something in the update, one would think that it would have warned me about the second SSD as well, when I installed the same update on that.
