Can't mount nfs shares

After installing nearly 400 updates today, when it came time to mount the shares from my NAS, I got this error message:

mount.nfs: not installed setuid - "user" NFS mounts not supported.

(I just included the first three as an example, but the error was repeated for every share on the NAS.) Since i was using elevated credentials, I wasn't executing the command as "user," but just to be sure I signed in as root, and got the same result. I tried to install setuid, and was told it's not in the repository.

That being the case, I tried to install nfs-utils, thinking that setuid might be part of that, but nfs-utils was already installed, as it should be.

These problems don't keep me from using the computer (obviously), but I can't access the Music, Pictures, or Videos shares on the media machine, which limits its usefulness. Likewise my laptop.

The two machines I've updated so far are both running Plasma

Can you try
sudo eopkg it --reinstall nfs-utils

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, rebooted, and tried again to mount those shares, but with the same result.

@WetGeek I just updated nfs-utils to the latest release in unstable. Mind checking if this fixes it for you? Install and reboot after.

I'll be glad to. Since my laptop couldn't access any of my shares, I removed the Plasma SSD and replaced it with the Budgie SSD that had been there previously. Since the first two computers I'd updated were both Plasma, I hoped that Budgie wouldn't be affected.

No such luck, though. After 529 updates to Budgie, I rebooted and tried to mount the shares, with the same results I'd had with Plasma.

Assuming that your changes to nfs-utils would affect Budgie as well, and considering that you made those changes before I installed updates to Budgie, I'm not hopeful that it's been fixed, but I'll try reinstalling nfs-utils again, just to be sure. This won't take long.

I just re-read your post, and realized that you mentioned "in unstable." I'll try that now.

Yes, the fix apparently worked. I changed to unstable, re-installed just nfs-utils, and rebooted. Started the terminal and did a mount -a, which ran without a problem. Then I used the file manager to confirm that the shares are all mounted.

WetGeek You didn't need to switch to unstable. The command I provided would've just installed the package. If you do sudo eopkg rr Solus and then sudo eopkg up it will automatically add the stable repository. Just so we are on the same page, do you have the nfs-utils that I pushed to unstable installed?

If so, great, I can cherrypick that to stable 🙂

Yes. I had read your message, and at a glance I thought the command you posted was to change to unstable to reinstall nfs-utils. I didn't realize that could be done without changing to unstable, and I already knew how to do that, so I did what I said in my message instead. Exactly the same result, just a bit more work for me.

To be sure, I just now issued your command, rebooted, mounted -a, and double-checked with the file manager. Yes, yes, yes, you can cherry-pick nfs-utils to stable, and that should solve the problem.

@WetGeek Sync is finally done, nfs-utils pushed to stable. Should be good to go now.
