Yeah, Firefox Home Screen is just unusable mess unfortunately 🙁

Only some favicons are visible, the others are just random letters 🤦‍♂️

I have an idea for Mozilla, instead of removal useful features, maybe improve Home Screen? Like working favicons or site's thumbnails, alternative views e.g. list view like in mobile version...

Ah, it depends on the History setting. If you disabled History, you won't see some of the favicons... 🤦‍♂️

algent Yes, it is a new behaviour of FF. For now just remove search bar. It happens on Windows too.

I'm leery at being forced into the address bar, but I have an option to add a real search bar next to the address bar so that's what I may do, then remove the Non-functional search bar on the home page as you suggested.
Also, thanks for link, I changed Solus back to Solus!

P.S.-how does one go about finding a company's thumbnail, like Qwant, for example? Answer: at the company's branding/marketing page probably I hope.

I guess the majority of users would just give up or doesn't care. Or would just switch to the another browser with far more superior Start Page, such as Vivaldi.

That is easy.
Install "Favicon Detector" then go to the website homepage, click on "Favicon Icon" and wait to load the icons.

By simply clicking on the loaded icon you have copied the URL.

brent why the hesitancy to use the address bar for search? Is there some InfoSec secret that I'm unaware of? I've always used it, even on new tabs I don't use the search box. I've also never given it any thought and generally do whatever the easiest thing is.

algent I only keep one row of thumbs, so I updated them all in minutes. Now I can remove the extension. Far out---thanks for the steer--cool extension.

I can't seem to remove the phantom (non-functioning) search bar from my home page in Settings. Perhaps nuke it via about:config? Or you think having a functional search on the home page might come back someday?

Always was strict about separating them because before I got strict seprating them I would start a search for 'coconuts' in the address bar and by 'co' I'd have a drop down list of sh*t that goes to the bottom of the screen...useless combinations of suggestions, stuff I've never searched for before, stuff that I had. (courier cobalt comorant contagion then by the time you type 'coco' it spits at you cocoa beach, cocoa, coca cola.....
....and being the lazy bas**rd as I am I don't want to go through all the settings buttons for data and history (firefox has a lot of them it seem!) to force the address bar to stop spitting suggestions at me.

Yeah, that's why I actively avoid looking for anything in my history and always have at least 20 open tabs. You never know when you may want to read that Ars Technica article again, and who knows if you'll ever be able to find it again! We all have our scars that make us do weird things 😂
