sudo eopkg remove -c desktop.kde
sudo eopkg remove -c desktop.kde.core
and it seems to have restored things as it were.

I guess I have no option but to follow your instructions and watch out for the updates until someone fixes the bug. I don't want to deal with apt even though I love Debian stability so much!

hsmenon I think Solus KDE may just change your mind about Plasma. I know it did for me. I couldn't get it, too many configurations for everything and everything setting option had 20 different sub-options. Tried it with Kubuntu, SUSE, and Garuda. I thought Garuda was really nicely themed, so I thought I'd give Solus KDE another shot. The base settings are wonderful, and it was much more approachable than any other distro out of the box on Plasma. So I added beauty line icons, Orchis Dark, Sweet, and themed it to my liking and haven't looked back.

Garuda LXQt Kwin also got me used to the idea of a tiling window manager, and I've been running Kwin on my Solus Plasma recently too and love it.

Brucehankins I've never really tried window tiling managers as such.

But Garuda GNOME was my favorite Arch distro up until their kernel had issues with pulse audio on Gnome making the wifi toggle inaccessible. I tried Garuda Dragonised Gamer Ultimate edition 5 days back and it was such a kitchen sink distro that it couldn't even run any game after an initial full upgrade. I haven't tried their normal dragonised edition featuring KDE yet, seems lean. I tried Manjaro LTS and minimal then and it just straight out wouldn't even install libre office because pulse audio had some dependencies that had to be edited and built. Now, I'm an intermediate skilled linux user, but if a distro can't install libre office because of some dependency issues, that distro clearly sucks and I've seen Manjaro GNOME in better days. I then went to Artix which is vanilla Arch without systemd and it's an awesome distro, but gnome was such a pain there too! Then to Fedora GNOME which was great except for the 2 minute shut down time every single time, atleast they ditched pulse audio and went for pipewire! I wouldn't look at ubuntu or any ubuntu based ditros twice due to ppa s and apt repository messes, I was left where I started: Solus and because budgie for some reason is limited on Solus, I mean they have the new version, but budgie on Arch just has a lot more applets, I tried Manjaro and Garuda with GNOME too and I think their budgie from the AUR has more features!

I was so happy with Solus GNOME, had set up a Windows and Android VM in it, restored all my files finally after a week of Distrohopping in every direction, and now this GNOME is such a pain here too!

I've heard Solus KDE is awesome, the theming looks nice out of the box, I think it's time I say bye to GNOME and hi to Solus KDE,

As much as I've loved GNOME from my very first linux distro of Ubuntu 16/18.04 until Garuda/Fedora March of 2021, it's time to say bye!

KDE Solus, here I come!!!

remember kde has its own indexer, but can easily be disabled by typing balooctl disable

Lucien_Lachance I would have said "Man, you're gonna make move back to Windows 10" , but I tried that too yesterday and still sucks, gave me errors within 15 minutes of use. I don't know much about KDE, longest was 2 days on any KDE distro, got fed up. But will I have this same issue as GNOME on KDE too?

hsmenon each desktop has its own issues i guess. if u wanna go with something that afaik has no such thing, and probably is very suitable for gaming maybe the mate edition? i haven tried mate for years though

hsmenon I haven't had any of those issues as of yet on KDE. The indexer seems more lightweight than GNOME's, not sure if that's true though.

My current KDE install runs a bit heavy, using around 9-12% CPU and 1.8Gib of ram at idle. I have Mailspring, weather applet, and a few other things I like using that autostart. On base install before theming or anything, I want to say it was using between 800Mib and 1.1Gib of ram and CPU was between 3-6% at idle.

Lucien_Lachance Well, for the record, Debian 10 buster (GNOME) is the only perfect distro I've seen, but maintaining it and adding/removing keys and repositories can be tricky, just yesterday, I accidentally removed all the keys instead of resetting the repos and couldn't find a way to fix it, because APT just lost contact with anything Debian. But when I am careful with Debian stable, it works perfectly. I've tried out every major and many minor linux distros out there, Fedora is a good one, so is Solus and also LMDE (But apt again...).

I've only used GNOME on 90% of all distros I've ever used, so maybe it's GNOME!

Brucehankins GNOME ran only 700MB of RAM, but it's not the RAM usage, it's that the Gnome tracker is buggy and in KDE it is not hopefully, cause I just finished setting up Solus KDE, will post an htop on fresh boot soon.

It's around Budgie levels of RAM usage, slightly lower than GNOME. KDE seems nice the way Solus has packaged it!
CPU usage and RAM usage is even lower when observed through the system monitor than neofetch for some reason, but it seems great and I haven't seen any GNOME distro run numbers that low! SO yaaay KDE!

hsmenon via the settings you can exclude certain folders from indexing, I have done this with all my game folders or solus repo clones to ease stuff 🙂

I tried my luck with KDE, me and KDE rejects each other like a rejected transplant organ. I tried Garuda, arguably the most beautiful KDE distro and I still couldn't take it. Each time I change a icon element, the icon is a paper icon until I restart the system, the browser buttons built into the panel was an epic fail and each time I have to change my sound device, I have to go to advanced settings which has like 5 HDMI options where I only have 1 HDMI output. GNOME does this so well and I had it with KDE. The only GNOME dekstop I'm going to use again is Debian Stable. But because I wanted to try something, I've finally found peace for now with DEBBIE!

Girtablulu Oh okay, I personally don't understand KDE and am not going to stay on any KDE distro, but thanks for the input. I don't have these issues on Debian Stable GNOME. However, I'm liking Cinnamon, it can be made to look like GNOME, with hot corners, Plank dock and U launcher for search, it still runs less than 700 MB RAM and does not have any issues that GNOME has.
