Two Desktop Environments, one machine (Budgie and Gnome 40)

Hey all!

I wanted to get your two cents about whether or not I could/should run both Budgie AND Gnome 40? I know they're both based on the Gnome stack, and I cannot trade my beloved Raven for anything, but I have found that I really, really like the Gnome 40 interface (from Fedora 34 installation). So my question is this:

I know I have been warned against installing several desktop environments in the past, but if they are based on the same stack, would I be tempting fate to install and use (read switch between every once in a while) both Budgie and Gnome 40 on my current Budgie Solus installation?

Uninformed opinion...far more so than with non-overlapping WM/DEs. Ie, I don't think it's a good idea.

ive had both together for years without issue, that was before gnome 40 though, doubt thats made any difference

Lucien_Lachance This is super helpful. I'm a little worried about removing lightdm, but the directions are right here! I can't argue with that. Thank you very much for pointing me at this how-to.

Bhibb you'll be replacing lightdm with gdm, you can log into both budgie and gnome from gdm

Agreed. I would elaborate on my own headaches outside of Budgie with GDM--enough to keep me snakebit but I won't. Caution I guess is all I'm saying.

Lucien_Lachance I just followed the guide and it worked flawlessly (obviously)! I love the option to switch between the two now. Thank you for pointing this out!
