buddyspencer with the Ubuntu from Tuxedo everything works fine and with Manjaro it also works nice, but with Solus I can't get a stable network connection. When I start an Update, it hangs up during the download of the packages. If I update via cable, it works fine
Unless you are experiencing network drops in other contexts, dropped connections during Solus updating probably don't suggest anything wrong with the wifi card/adapter and/or the way in which Solus interacts with the card/adapter in general.
Many/most of us experience dropped connections while doing large Solus updates, to the point where it is more-or-less routine for us to have to restart sudo eopkg up (sometimes several times) during a large update.
I frequently get dropped during large-file updates (firefox, libre-common, icons, kernel-common, and so on). I experience that on three different computers, each with different wifi cards/adapters. The download rate slows, then drops, and that experience seems both computer-independent and kernel-independent because it has been happening with several different computers and several different kernels over the years. Otherwise, though, I don't have any disconnect issues.
My guess is that the problem is on the Solus update side (that is, the way in which the update process handles connections on one end or the other, or issues with the servers/mirrors) rather than with the card/adapter itself.
I've never tried to update with a wired connection, but if I remember to do so, I'll try it and see if there is a difference. One case doesn't make a rule, though, so I'll probably do it at least a half dozen times (with the other two computers using wifi for the same update as a control) before drawing any conclusions. I can see that wired might work better, though, because wifi adds several layers of complexity to network connections with a significantly increased likelihood of error.
Like you, I've never experienced network drops during updates with Ubuntu and Ubuntu derivatives. I can remember having issues years back, but I don't think I've had any update issues with Ubuntu for at least a decade. I think that the problem is with the Solus update process.
The Tuxedo you bought has really good specs, a great combination. Enjoy it.
