Infinite boot loader goes from a start up to shut down phase, what’s the problem

Hello everyone, I’m having an issue. I was working on something for a speech I have to do today. When I tried to boot up Impress, it would not load. So I thought shutting it down and booting it back up would work. Now I’m stuck in an infinite boot loader phase where when I try to boot up, it shows the computer brand logo, then it tries to start up and it won’t start up to go to the password screen. This had to happen at the worst possible time since I have a speech to give today and I have to rely on my PowerPoint to salvage the speech. Is there any possible way to fix this?

Nickman Bumping this I really need help with this. I still gave a good speech, but I need to get this working for the next speech.

Are you using the Unstable repository? (asking in case you're running into the same problem as I am)
Did you do a partial update before rebooting? Maybe there is a mismatch between kernel and graphics driver versions (are you running a nvidia gpu?)
On the black screen after starting up, can you enter tty2 by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 ?

No I am not running the unstable repo
No I did not do a partial update, I probably should’ve, but it was 2:00am in the morning and it would’ve updated everything automatically and not allowed me to check off the things I want checked off so it can update the more important things first. Yes I have an nvidia GeForce graphics card.
I will have to answer this question when I get home, since I’m currently at the college right now.

Actually, updating everything together is highly recommended. A partial upgrade could possibly cause issues like this.

If you can login like that, first try fully updating your system with sudo eopkg up and then rebooting

Staudey Thank you and yes I’m doing good. The updates tend to take a long time when I do them, I’m not exactly sure why. I feel like I have way too much stuff on the computer. What will entering tty2 do after I press control Ctrl + Alt + F2?

Sorry, might've been a bit unclear there. Pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 will switch to tty2, the second terminal interface on your system. (tty1 or tty7 is the one used for your usual graphical session, depending on your setup).
After you press that combination a text-based login screen should appear, where you can enter your login credentials and the run terminal commands, like in this case sudo eopkg up

Oh, you have far more than just two!

nolan Nickman had this operating system on three pieces of hardware so far. I remember 1 and 2, also 11 and 12. Once it works I never write it down, rinse, repeat. Agree with Nolan, it slants to the lower numbers but unsure that's the rule.

If you press Ctrl+Alt+F2 (or F3 or F4, etc.) briefly and then let it all go, you're doing it right. If you press Ctrl+Alt+F7, you return to the GUI (if it's working).

from f2 to f6 you can use them, you have to tipe your user name and password then you can run sudo eopkg up wen finish, runreboot and you should be good.

We may be talking about two different situations. I came into this thread about where you were surprised that there were more than one terminal. Are you just getting to a screen where there's nothing but a flashing "_" cursor? You may need more help from someone who's been there before--I haven't.

I just went back to the start of the thread, and I have a better idea what's happening. I've still never been in that situation, but if I were, I might start fooling around with the timing. Try it the first time you see anything from Solus, then after a couple of seconds, then a little later, etc.

The thing is, Ctrl+Alt+F2 is the correct invocation to expose one of the several TTY terminals that Linux makes available. If you work with that for a while and get no joy, then I'm afraid it's beyond my understanding. But don't give up on the forum. I'm just a Solus user. There are certainly folks on the Solus development team that will understand what's (not) happening and steer you in the right direction.

Let's start from the beginning. Describe what exactly happens when you start your computer. So, the Lenovo logo shows up, what's the next thing that happens? Is there a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner, as @WetGeek mentioned?

Staudey Sorry for the slow reply, I was at work when you messaged me, there is a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner yes. The screen is bright, but then goes dark, almost like it’s trying to boot up, but can’t

Nickman So the blinking cursor disappears after a while and then the screen goes dark? And while the screen is dark, pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 does nothing? (btw you need to keep holding the keys, in case that isn't clear to you. So press and hold CTRL, while still holding also press ALT and hold, and finally, while still holding the other two, press F2)
