Using Kodi

@Solarmass, I'm continuing my introduction to Kodi here, having removed it from an unrelated thread before I got yelled at.

When I started Kodi on my laptop, it took over the whole screen. Thus, no bottom panel is accessible, and I couldn't find any way to exit from the application other than pressing the keyboard power button and logging out. That can't be what's needed to exit from Kodi, is it?

WetGeek there is a "Power" button. So you can use navigation keys and Enter.

That's my problem, I guess. I always preferred editors like kate and gedit, or macro in a terminal. Never had much use for vim, or emacs.

I'm really liking Kodi so far. I installed it on my media machine while my wife wasn't looking, and loaded the library with videos, music, and pictures from the NAS.

If I could just figure out a way to change workspaces from within Kodi, my life would be complete. I'd like to be able to leave Kodi available, yet change to a browser to watch a movie, or to a terminal to install upgrades. I now know how to exit Kodi, but I'd like to be able to set it aside while I work elsewhere.

I guess what I'm looking for is a way to change workspaces in Plasma from the keyboard. Any ideas?

The biggest challenge I guess is to add Movies correctly to the library. Personally I add them "manually" (I select one folder with the movie and in the context menu select Scan to the Library. But before you do that you have to Set Content for the root movie folder).

On Budgie i have Kodi in Autostart. So Kodi is always on the 1st workspace. I use hotkeys to switch workspaces (Ctrl + arrow keys). So if I need Vivaldi I just hit CTRL+ ➡️

I guess the process is the same on Plasma. Maybe there is a way to assign Apps to their corresponding workspaces (and do it automatically on every boot) 💡

Unfortunately that doesn't work in Plasma. I'm sure there's a way, though. I just need to do a little more research. I'll start with a search of the forum.

The default on Budgie is CTRL+ALT+ ➡️
I don't know what defaults on Plasma, but I am sure it is possible to assign anything 🙂

I use open electric on an old laptop with big harddrive then I put kodi on whatever I want and set basic settings it sucks it from there and I dont have to set every single install of kodi up. But Kodi I shouldnt say weird things not prob with kodi because you can adjust it for about anything you can adjust things for each movie individual which has saved me countless hours.

I found it! CTRL+F1, CTRL+F2, CTRL+F3, ... etc. It works here in the forum, so I'm pretty sure it will work from inside Kodi.

WetGeek you can always change them in the settings if you want.

I just adore the workspace switching animation on Budgie 🙂
