Anyone on Solus with a Minimal Window Manager? Which ones?

Agreed with @WetGeek , after using a well-bred Linux os like Solus, it is hard to find satisfaction elsewhere. Regardless, I use df -h and top or htop no matter where I am to check my system and memory usage.
In my opinion, it will be quite a while, or never (?), for BSD desktops to catch up to likes of Solus.

Yeah----this is pretty much it, what you said. The little victories. I'll monkey with it when there's time. I don't hate it, so that's a start. Thanks for the-df -h tip.

Probably never. I don't even see a linux distro I'd call runner up to Solus.

brent I remember setting up FreeBSD for desktop use back in 2006. Had to rely on lots of google and handbook search. Editing system config files left and right. Every simple achievement was a big win. Like having sound, playing a video, getting a simple hp2020 usb printer to work. Nothing came working out of the box. The BSDs are mostly designed for research and servers. Only recently efforts are being made (by some external groups/persons) to add desktop or gui functionality, and it shows.

brent @elfprince @WetGeek love how you all are so appreciative toward Solus (despite this being a Solus forum). I've had it installed alongside Fedora over a year now now, and been struggling to choose which one to main (often going w/ Fedora). Good news is I've narrowed the vast universe of Linux distros down to these two, but curious to hear your thoughts on why/how you landed on Solus and why you feel it's a tier above other distros? : )

Forgot to add, that it is always advised in BSD forums to choose hardware that is compatible with BSD, so that they can work together. Once that is done, things are not bad. But the gui part is not mature yet. Many people do use a BSD as desktop and they are happy. It can be configured, but the effort to get there can be daunting. A good challenge on the side perhaps. 😀

elfprince yeah, sorry didn't want to hijack this thread but since it seemed to be going off-track with BSD, thought why not? lol I think there's a few other related posts on this forum already but was particularly interested in the views from ppl in this thread given the more technical discussion going on here. elfprince If h30 did make his own, he'd get some unique stories. "Why Solus?" I've seen asked a few times. He might even find a few in the search engine. "How did you find Solus" like that, I've seen a couple times. h3o ---"Solus Pros and Cons" would be interesting but possibly injurious🙂.

elfprince I think it's good. Or compared to other Distros.
I think it would be a subjective thread as far as tastes. But I think it could be educational because all these DE's (I'm told) have their own strengths and weaknesses. Plus all of them have a niche in the linux world, or are known for something, or appeal to like-minders, and are marketed to a following---all information I don't know nothing anything about. When I bailed WIN I tried on the Linux Big 3, some for less than and hour, til I found the true independent with no fork led, at the time, by a scrappy foul-mouthed Irishman and a cast of dedicated talent behind him who never abandoned the project despite ups and downs, and that was all she wrote.🙂
Could be a good thread.
edit: there's a lot of peeps like @WetGeek , I am positive, that have tried them all.

elfprince I hope development on Openbox continues. I have concerns because not much has been done development-wise on it for awhile. I've looked at other window managers and I haven't seen anything that would be a good replacement, at least for my liking.

I prefer a floating window manager versus a tiling window manager.
I am familiar with it.
It's better and more lightweight than a full-blown desktop environment.
It pairs well with the Tint2 panel.
It's easy to learn.

OldTechBloke did a really nice video on Openbox and Tint2 that may be persuasive.

downhill Yes, I like OldTechBloke and I viewed that one as well. Like I said earlier, I've used OB before for a while, but was looking for an even lighter feel, without the extra panels and accessory programs. That's when I stumbled upon JWM, and stayed on it since then. 😀 My old time favourite from BSD days, Window Maker, didn't compare as well either.
