tomscharbach I still hold a torch for my first home computer
You bring back memories. My first serious computer (i.e., not made by Commodore) was a Kaypro 4-84. It ran CP/M, and had a 59 KB transient program area. I wrote two books on that machine (using WordStar), and taught myself to program in C. Adding a 5 MB hard drive cost more than the computer did, so I got by with the two built-in floppies. My first MS-DOS machine was an American PC, a competitor to IBM, for a LOT less money.
Every step along the way, a competent computer, monitor, mouse, etc., cost about $3,000 in contemporary cash. Today I consistently do much better than that.
