PC-TECH I just purchased a MSI-X470 AM4 socket motherboard to build a new system. I plan to install an AMD Ryzen 3 or 5. Should get one with the internal graphics? (Vega) or use an external GPU? My current system is a Lenovo H-320 into which I installed a low end NVIDA card. It works just fine with Solus. My question, will Solus work with either option? Will there driver issues with a Ryzen with internal graphics? Thanks in advance Mark
100jan PC-TECH Two days ago I put together a system for a friend - AsRock B550M PRO4, Ryzen 3 4350G with 2X8GB 3200 where I planned to install Linux Mint which did not work properly - does not recognize graphics properly, does not recognize HDMI audio out .. Solus works perfectly! You should first check which CPU is supported on that motherboard! The B550 does not support older Ryzen with graphics (Ryzen yes but the graphics don't work)! X470 I don't know.
Fox PC-TECH Depends on what you plan to do. Video acceleration or regular desktop use is fine, but if you want to utilise OpenCL you better choose an Intel or Nvidia GPU (or use Ubuntu or RHEL instead).
Fox PC-TECH If you don't rely on OpenCL, you should be fine. Apparently there are difficulties with the licence of the ROCm package, which is required for OpenCL with newer AMD GPUs.
Harvey I do not know for sure, but I THINK internal graphics are fine, have not heard any complaints. But I do know the Ryzen 6800/6900 GPUs are currently not supported (good luck finding one anyway) as it requires llvm-11 which we can not upgrade to yet. https://dev.getsol.us/T9552
serebit I wouldn't get one with internal graphics, most of the ones that are commonly available aren't particularly good compared to the ones without integrated graphics at the same price point. I'd recommend the Ryzen 5 3600, or maybe the 2600 if you can't stretch to $200.
janebuoy I am having random freezes and reboots with a Ryzen 5 3400g on my home machine with dual DP unfortunately. Yet the same type of machine (Lenovo Thinkcentre M75s) runs fine with a single monitor at work. I don't think it has to do much with Solus though.
PoorPocketsMcNewHold So, if I understand correctly. I should wait T9552 issue to be solved, in order for the support for these GPU cards to be added? I can’t even boot from a live key since my GPU card change.
PoorPocketsMcNewHold Noticed that T9552 was solved, as well as llvmlite releasing their first release candidate v.037. As that AMD issue seems to prevent me from installing Solus at all of my rig, should i expect a potential quickfix release, or should i wait a full release for it ? I could also support financialy Solus to get access to nightly builds, but i only have debitary access to my bank account 😅
