Y'know, it's a funny thing how coincidence works sometimes.
Hi everyone, I'm Portreve, and I'm a brand new member here and (nearly) brand new user of Solus OS.
And just like RobertTVarga, I am an experienced user of technology. My roots stretch back into the 1980s with the Macintosh, though I'd played around (a lot) with other platforms of the period (TRS-80s, Apple II systems, Amigas, 8088- and 80286/386/486 systems running MS-DOS and Windows 3.1).
I've been a full-time Linux user since about 2015 using Linux Mint, which I still love, but now I'm branching out, and in more ways than one.
I don't know if Solus Forums has a "New Users" section like LM Forums does, and I really don't want to hijack this thread. The reason I've started out here by posting in his thread is that I also have decided I want to get into programming, and have essentially no knowledge in anything like serious and modern programming languages. Today, I did several things. The first was to made the decision to switch my main machine over to something else, with that something else being Solus. I also decided to see what I could find to get started with programming, and so I've fooled around now a little bit with setting up Rust. However, I also know that both Python and Ruby are very widely used, and that connected with the fact that I'm very interested (also?) in all-things-infrastructure, it seems like it would be useful to start having experiences with them while I'm reading my way through one of several Network+ study books.
I'm going to go back through this whole thread again (and I'll probably re-read it a few times) but definitely I'm interested in finding my footing with programming, as well as networking.
If I can find a more appropriate spot, I'll post an introduction thread.
I just can't believe how cool this distro has become since I last had a chance to touch it.
