Desktop Icons stuck on screen after deleting

I have had the budgie edition running for a day now and I have been installing software and customising the desktop but I have noticed that there is no option(that I have found) to move or remove icons from the desktop. Even after I have deleted two applications, their names still remain on their screen(before I restarted the computer their icons were there as well)

I may have missed something however but what do I need to do to get them off my desktop? Coming from a windows user, I am used to being able to just click and drag icons to move them and right click them and there will be an option to remove them. Neither option was available. Can somebody help?

--budgie desktop settings can hide icons.
--to delete desktop items, delete them from the nautilus (file manager) desktop folder, not the desktop.

I miss desktop click-and-drag, too. A lot. It was recently done away with (do a search here for reasons why) and I don't believe it's coming back. I really miss having my garbage can on the right edge, centered, but other that that it can be lived without. You get used to operating out of Nautilus desktop folder, though.

The right-click "Move to Trash" option is not available currently for applications added to the desktop. This is something I plan on fixing. However, as noted by @brent, the Desktop folder accessible via Nautilus (the file manager) can be used to just delete them.

Just because you uninstalled the application doesn't mean it will remove it from your desktop. When you add a file to your desktop, it copies it. That copied .desktop file is retained when you remove the application itself. It is no different than say, uninstalling a video player but still having your video files 🙂

Follow-up: The sync to stable repo today will introduce an update to budgie-desktop-view that enables the deletion of files which are detected as application desktop files or key files (.desktop files that aren't related to an application).

To get this change, all you need to do is update your system when the updates arrive, log out, then log back in.
