Instead of using a dated version of Nautilus that let the user to have desktop icons available?! Sooner or later, it'll have security holes [if not already] and problems with newer dependencies if you guys keep using dated software on a rolling-like kind of distribution.
I'm not sure if depending so highly on Gnome may lead this desktop to something remarkable in the future.
You guys could fork Nautilus like Cinnamon did and now they've Nemo or better, use other alternative that doesn't affect desktop icons, Nemo itself is a great alternative and it's officially used on Ubuntu Budgie recent releases.
All well-known desktop environmets so far have their own file manager (forked or not).
Gnome -> Nautilus
MATE -> Caja
KDE -> Dolphin
Xfce -> Thunar
Cinnamon -> Nemo
Pantheon -> Pantheon Files
DDE -> Deepin File Manager
LXDE -> PCManFM
LXQt -> PCManFM-Qt
Budgie -> Nautilus? (Same as GNOME?)
Any thoughts? Ideas?
