Ridiculous App Names in Linux

I was reading some old threads and there was a discussion on oddly named Linux apps...think all the KDE apps that start with 'K'. https://discuss.getsol.us/d/2246-gnome-mpv-is-now-celluloid/15

Going with Yakuake, I would point to Guake. I never understood Lollypop. I love Clementine but was it named after the song "Oh my darling"?

What do you think is the most ridiculously named Linux app/software/etc?

jppelt GIMP and any other recursively-named software/library. Eye-roll worthy, really.
Also had a bit of trouble getting my IT staff at my job to let that on a Town computer, which was a pain because I needed it for 1-bit image editing.

I really like the Glimpse name/branding from the fork, and I'd hope that the two teams would come to terms about it and work closer together.

I really do loathe the old KDE naming scheme but while we're making fun of external projects naming. Time to laugh at our own nonsense too. Solus's "Hardware Drivers" application is actually called doflicky

Naming things is often the hardest part... seriously.

yakuake really is bad tho. Not even sure I pronounce it correctly. Yak-you-ache?

Harvey the good news about doflicky is that using the launcher you have to type in hardware and it pops up as Hardware Drivers....but whoever came up with the name was perhaps thinking of childhood games?

From memory a podcast interview or chat in IRC discussed the naming process for it. No one could come up with a decent name. So its umm... ahhh... a doohickey/doflicky (Which means: a small object or gadget, especially one whose precise name the speaker cannot recall). it does stuff... doflicky it is!

I personally would have voted for thingamabob.

It will eventually go away once its functionality is integrated into the software center (solus-sc) so I guess no one really cared to spend much time on naming ideas.

I use git a lot. What Linus Torvalds meant, is the second software after Linux he named after himself 😁
MongoDB is another strange name.
Cheese for a webcam software is a funny but nice name though.
I don't really get DBeaver... wth has a Beaver to do with Databases? 😄

Btw: What KDE does with their K, Gnome likes to do with G, like Gparted...

IntelliJ IDEA is a pretty silly name. DeaDBeeF is pretty bad. and "Swell Foop" - what's that about?

DeaDBeeF name is a reference to hexspeak and famous magic number that was used for debugging programs. Although I don't understand how it's related to audio playback - this name would fit better for a debugger, a reverse engineering tool or something like that 😃

How about CUPS? Yeah they had to go with the acronym for legal reasons, but at least Common Unix Printing System let's you know it's for printing.

Cheese only "makes sense" if you speak english. I had to rename it because I always type camera and was getting frustrated at not finding it.
