Albert - dissapeared

I had an Albert application installed. Today after Solus update it is gone, can't find it. I can't even find it in Software Center. Can You help?
Or what other Albert like launcher can I use in this system (can't find ulauncher either)

elkrien I almost lost it when I saw Albert was gone...I am so dependent on the launcher. Good news, I found synapse in the repository. Not the same but I think I can live without Albert and 100% agree with the call to remove given the thread.

davidjharder It was worth a read. Interesting give and take, with two distinct points of view, and surprisingly respectful. And informative since I don't usually read the 'behind-the-scenes' foss stuff.

Thx for explanations. It looks that I need to find a replacement for Albert. Any propositions beside Synapse? Need something lightweight that I could use on my main machine with Solus and my other old computer with Arch.

If you are on Plasma you've got krunner straight out of the box. For GTK based DEs I think that your only option on Solus is Synapse, while for Arch there's even uLauncher (and god knows what else given the sheer size of the AUR...)

I have installed rofi on both my machines - even better than Albert with good configuration and theme. Works great with Solus and Arch 🙂

LOL - I just found out there is ALT+F2 in Budgie 😅
Anyway Rofi looks better 🤣

elkrien I have an HHK Pro Classic and the Alt + F2 is not as easy as setting the launcher to start on the Henkan key 🙂 And I like to have added search in files, web, etc...

jppelt I think You can configure rofi to search files (-modi file-browser) and web (by extra scrpits that You can download).

Luckily I had a backup because I had several websearch shortcuts (can't recommend it enough if you search a lot on specific websites, e.g. for games) which I had used it the most for. But because Albert is really resource heavy compared to dmenu or rofi I thought about to change soon anyways. May take some time to config it but for my workflow it's 100% worth it, can't live without a custom launcher with websearch anymore.

elkrien One thing I really like about Synapse that I do not remember seeing on Albert is the ability to suspend, reboot, etc, directly from the launcher. My goal is to be as mouse free as possible and the more I can do via the keyboard, the happier I am.
