How to add a brand new HDD?

Hi, I am new over here. I have been using Solus for almost a year now.

Recently I bought a new HDD to use as a data drive for my Solus machine. I use an SSD for my system and an old HDD for my data. I bought the new HDD to replace the old one, so I used Gparted to create a new partition on the new HDD and Disks to mount it.
So, now I can mount my new drive but I am not able to write on it, for what I can see in this and other forums I guess I have to grant my user the necessary permissions to write on the new drive, but I cant find the procedure to do that on Solus.

--you partitioned and formatted your new external as Admin account and you are now wondering why a non-privileged account cannot read/write on the new drive.

This is probably not hard. You have to read articles about chmod/chown, the CLI programs that grant access and permissions. I think adding your guest to a group would be harder than just giving them admin-type powers but I'm no expert. I don't have any handy commands. Or maybe giving them access to this single device is the easiest approach? I've used both these programs, down and dirty, to get the stuff I need done (similar to your need) but I never write this stuff down after I succeed!
Again, I think making this happen is at your fingertips here.
This is a lot of words to say chmod/chown is my vote for a remedy.

Depending on how new you are to this stuff will determine how much help you need so if you still don't get it after reading below just ask. Since you managed to install Solus I am guessing your not a total newb.

bigrammy I can't think of anything either besides chown and chmod. Good advice about newbie level. I think with the right search engine sequence of words ("linux chown guest user permissions") the OP could DIY. That's how I did it as a rookie. Plus the forum🙂

Thanks for all your imput, I managed to open the file manager as root and then gave my user the necessary permissions. Brand new HDD to enjoy Solus with.
