How to type accent characters

I am a new Solus Budgie user and I like this OS very much. The only problem is that I can't type accent characters like é or ä. In Linux Mint I could type " and then a to create ä. How can I do this in Solus Budgie? I can't find an option for this in the settings.

Open Software Center search "characters" install Gnome characters and when launchec will show in Budgie menu. 🙂

Thanks for your quick reply! Combined keys are much easier than this solution, but it's better than nothing.

This is going to depend on your keyboard layout, but sometimes doing combinations like ' and e will give é, same goes for á. ä is on my keyboard already (Finnish layout) but maybe you could do it with " and a in sequence.

I recommend setting up a compose key. that way you can just (for example) hold AltGr+a+" to get ä.

Yes, I installed Gnome Tweaks and selected a compose key. It works perfect.

AutoKey is yet another option. It allows to define hotkeys and assign to them whatever action a user desires. These actions may vary from very complex - like running scripts, inserting pieces of text, correcting typing errors, - to most simple, like inserting a certain character.

AutoKey is in Solus repo:

sudo eopkg install autokey-py3

Some keys are dead (broken) on my keyboard. I use AutoKey to type them in.
