Ghosts after closing the windows of some programs

For example, if you close the video player window (after about 5 - 10 minutes of playing), then the program itself will end, but the image of the player window remains on the screen. The screen is cleared only after switch to any GUI program.
Also happens after closing the save dialog in Firefox.
The problem appeared after updating to Budgie 10.5.2.

Thanks for posting this issue. I've been experiencing the same thing. It started to happen after the big upgrade that brought in the 5.10.x kernel (Dec 18 2020). I haven't noticed the issue with other programs so far, but I haven't played any video outside of the browser in awhile. Hopefully there's a resolution at some point, it's rather annoying.

Same here. Happens with Firefox and all Apps which make heavy use of graphics, like picture viewer and video apps. The problem started with the 5.10 Kernel. I guess the Nouveau graphics driver needs updating/patching ?

dassuan Unfortunately there is no update for nouveau and there's only been a dozen commits since the release in January of 2019, none of them seem related to your issue. I'd suggest filing an issue at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/nouveau/-/issues/

My systems are using nvidia (optimus) drivers, so it's probably not just nouveau that may or may not be causing the issue.

stalebrim Yeah, I suspect there's various issues with Mutter since the December 18th update. On my end, I've been having screen tearing since then (laptop with Nvidia graphics with nvidia-drm.modeset=1 already set as kernel option).

I had the same issue few days ago, but I have Intel video card and kernel 4.14. After upgrading to kernel 5.10 it all good now.

Same issue here, but it started after I updated to Budgie 10.5.2 a few weeks ago. When the kernel moved to 5.10 it got better but did not go away. Before 5.10 "ghosting" only disappeared after clicking another GUI program; afterwards it sometimes disappears by itself in 3 to 10 seconds.

I've noticed this with several programs (Firefox, VLC, Wesnoth and Nautilus come to mind). I think it never happened with others but I might be wrong (I cannot recall it ever happening with LibreOffice Writer or Hedgewars, for example).

I'm on a Thinkpad with integrated Intel graphics in case it matters.

It does not bother me much, but a fix would be appreciated.

I wish a pandemic-free 2021 for Solus users.
