Hello, I am having a lot of trouble with my nvidia drivers for gtx1660Ti laptop gpu [lenovo y740].
I know there's many different topics already created and many people have the same problem but none of these posts could help me.
The problem:
After setting up in UEFI my discrete GPU I can't boot up Solus OS because all I see is a black screen. I can choose which kernel I want to use [using the latest and check via command lines if it really boots from the latest; everything returns true].
Really important note: I am a total newbie in linux world, please be patient and explain things like you'd explain it to a kid 😃
What I did so far:
1. I installed, removed and reinstalled nvidia drivers [455 version - as far as I know they're compatibile with my GPU]. Still no success. [using doflicky and using eopkg: both methods failed]
2. Checked the kernel. I am using the latest kernel and drivers for "current" (I suppose it means for the current/latest kernel version). Verified through commandlines, uname -r and some other one. Nvidia drivers verified through commandline eopkg list-installed | grep nvidia; everything returns 455 version.
3. At this point I removed AMDGPU support, Radeon Support, removed xorg [out of frustration], removed modaliases-glx-390 and installed regular one.
4. I did put all those nomodeset into the grub and still didn't work, and it isn't saved after reboot. Removed AMD/Radeon lines from the GRUB and still black screen on booting using nvidia card.
5. Searched the forum multiple times and found not much.
6. Perhaps more than that including completely reinstalling OS.
At this point I gave up and got back to the Windows 10 and I am writing this post from it.
I really do want to get this Solus work because I know it's possible. It wasn't my first installation of this OS and my first did work well with my nvidia card. I just don't remember what I did to make it work.
Also, my PC specs:
i7 9750H
GTX1660Ti
500gb SSD
3 partitions + EFI (Also, I am noob in making partitions so I don't know if what I did is right):
root - 50 gb
home - 20 gb
swap - 16 gb
EFI - 500mb
Kernel - the latest 5.10.x
