  • Display does not turn back on after wake

Hi there,

My name is Benji and I am hoping someone could assist with a simple issue I am having.

Issue: When my computer automatically goes into sleep (or hibernate not sure exactly), I cannot get the screen to turn back on. The systems does "wake up", its just the screen wont turn on.

I do however get the flashing cursor in the CLI sometimes when I hit Ctl + Alt + F3/F4/F5
Which would indicate a video card issue

My system is below:

      OS: Solus x86_64
 Kernel: 5.6.19-159.current

   Packages: 783 (eopkg), 10 (flatpak)
  Shell: bash 5.0.11

Resolution: 1920x1080
Theme: Plata-Noir [GTK3]
Icons: Papirus [GTK3]
Terminal: gnome-terminal
CPU: Intel i5-3570K (4) @ 4.100GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Memory: 1133MiB / 15961MiB

I really hope I have given all the info needed

JoshStrobl changed the title to Display does not turn back on after wake .

This is a fairly known problem with earlier kernel versions. Now on 5.6.19-159.current it shouldn't exist. If it does, install kernel-lts and re-login

sudo eopkg it linux-lts

Show your kernel uname -a

    I noticed something actually..

On the ubuntu drivers (not sure if they are the same as the kernel is different) you can manually switch between the dicrete and PCI video cards (Intel intergrated GPU and my nvidia card).

something called called Prime on the proprietary drivers.

but mine doesnt have this option. see below:

This is not going to be a popular, but its true.

Computers not waking from sleep / hibernation properly is common regardless of kernel / Operating System. If it doesn't work, your only solution is disable suspend / hibernation.

Proper ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) support is on a device by device basis and its always hit or miss. You have systems certified to work on Microsoft Windows (WHQL), which resume fine, hook up a random USB device and watch issues pop up.

It is / was / always has been a nightmare.

Oh right, well I had this same issue with Pop OS. but it doesn't happen on our laptops.

I was thinking to put an old AMD video card in and maybe that would solve the issue? It's the monitor not waking up so could it be the monitor?

pomon Hi there @pomon , Actually I tried the command you gave me and its still not turning on the monitor when the system wakes up. Is there a way to fix it somehow? Our business does not have this issue on debian systems.
