petrostrak Hello ppl! Is it possible to run forticlient on Solus? I'm thinking of switching to Solus but I need forticlient (with token authentication) . If so, anyone can give me some feedback? Thanks!
[deleted] Fortinet provides information on how to install the Client on Linux. This applies to all Linux distros. I personally use the client on my smartphone
petrostrak [deleted] I could only find packages and instructions for only .deb and .rpm. I believe that they do not apply to Solus.
petrostrak JoshStrobl I'll try it within the week and come back to you! However, my concern is the token that the fortinet provides for authentication. Will that apply to network-manager-fortisslvpn ?
JoshStrobl petrostrak I have no idea. I've never used Fortisslvpn. I only know of the package because sometimes I have to rebuild it against newer NetworkManagers.
[deleted] I meant this page Yes, I also have seen, they provide deb and rpm packaged clients. The download links for the client: https://www.forticlient.com/repoinfo Unfortunately no link for Solus. In some rare cases it is possible to just provide the content of the deb file to your Solus to get it work. No guarantee this works here. And in the worst case, this might corrupt your system. Link to deb archive: https://repo.fortinet.com/repo/ubuntu/pool/multiverse/forticlient/ Do you really need a linux client? Can you use an android client for your smartphone as well (like me) ?
petrostrak [deleted] Thanks for your time, much appreciated! I believe I need a linux client cause I need to connect remotety to my PC at work. Unless I can do that via my phone, something that I m not aware of. Anyhow, I ll try to tinker the deb package and see!
lf-araujo petrostrak my work also uses the forticlient token, it seems that the fortisslvpn is not enough in these cases, unfortunately. I have not tested this recently, though. If you find a solution, please mention here. Thanks.
[deleted] petrostrak I'm working remote as well but I connect via Citrix workspace app. This app requests for a token generated by my fortitoken app on the smartphone. That is, for me it's just one more authentication step.
petrostrak lf-araujo I tested it with openfortivpn as @pm314 suggested and it works like a charm. A tiny configuration is required in /etc/openfortivpn/config such as server, port(443 for forticlient), username/pass. I confirm also that the fortitoken syncs and works. For a remote desktop client, I tried Remmina which already is in the Solus repos.
pm314 I've used openfortivpn (package available in repo). Is that what you need? It is not the most straightforward because it is command line/config file only but once I got it up and running it works great. I open terminal, run the command and am prompted for uid/pwd (could also be store in config). Once I authenticate it prompts for token which I get from the Fortinet app on my phone. Once connected works great with the exception that I've never been able to get DNS lookups to work, I have to know the IP address of my work computer. I've never tried very hard to figure it out though so it is probably possible.
gperete Software Center>Search>fortinet I have both "openfortivpn-1.9.0" and "Fortinet SSLVPN client-1.2.10" Get to Network Connections and add VPN "Fortinet SSLVPN" On Advanced, there is entry for Trusted certificate hth
theArianit Hi. My company also uses forticlient for remote connections. I set up the vpn as gperete suggested, SSL-VPN with the remote gateway. But can't configure the port number there, also the config file doesn't open. how can I configure the port number?
petrostrak theArianit Hey, the config file is a text file which can be edited with any text editor, nano, vim, gedit etc. Just open it with sudo privileges and enter the port number. If it doesn't exist, just create one with the same name. The structure of the file is the following : host = vpn.example.org port = 443 username = vpnuser password = VPNpassw0rd
theArianit petrostrak I am trying to open that file but without success. it shows a red 'x' in the right bottom corner of the icon. opening from terminal says that config is an unknown command. I run sudo cat config and it shows all parameters as empty, even though I added the vpn client in the network settings and entered the parameters. I also can connect to the vpn from the wifi panel icon, enter the password and it says it's connected. but then I lose the internet connection even though still connected to the wifi. I don't know if I am using it wrong or what. but I can't make it work
theArianit there is this setting under "IPv4", had to check "Use this connection only for resources on its network". also under gateway i could have put the port number after the gateway, like vpn.gateway:443. I also worked from the cli, but it toke me forever to find the commands for that
danielkraut I have installed the forticlient packages. Does anyone know where to set authentication method to pre-shared key and where to put the key?
kaktuspalme danielkraut I have Fortinet SSLVPN Client installed. I use the NetworkManager gui in plasma but I think it should work in budgie as well. In the config go to the tab VPN (fortisslvpn). There go to advanced and put the string in trusted certificate. Though I'm not sure if you mean that by pre-shared key.
