Hey everyone!

As many of you know, Solus provides multilingual support for both Brisk Menu and Budgie Desktop via our Weblate instance. I'm really proud of the number of languages Budgie and Brisk Menu are being translated into and grateful to those that have spent time on updating translations as we evolve both projects.

Awareness

While I have no strict requirements for the translations of our projects for a specific release to be made, I certainly desire there to be as many up-to-date and complete translations as possible, to enable these projects to be as widely accessible as possible.

With Budgie 10.5.2 around the corner, I want to raise awareness with our community on getting folks engaged in providing accurate and up-to-date translations for their language.

  1. Some of these languages may have pending suggestions that need to be handled by someone with expertise in that language which are part of the respective language team.
  2. Translators may need to be added to dedicated language teams to enable them to make changes directly or approved other suggestions.
  3. In some cases I might just need to send a gentle reminder out to someone that is part of a team that there are pending suggestions, check if they're still active in the community, etc. This is an entirely manual process so turnaround time may be a bit longer.
  4. There may be a difference in language availability between Brisk Menu and Budgie Desktop. Feel free to comment if I need to add one to Brisk Menu, as an example.

No matter the case, this is one the most substantial ways you can contribute, even with no knowledge in programming! It just requires you to save or approve translations, I do the rest when I sync the translations up with the main budgie-desktop project.

Languages To Note

Below is a list of languages in need of one or more dedicated / new team members! This list is based on Budgie Desktop and may not be 100% comprehensive, if I missed one then let me know 🙂 There may be some overlap between this and Brisk Menu, translation teams have access to both.

New translations by new translators: 🎉

I personally don't know the differences (if any) between specific variants of these languages (e.g. Chinese, Norwegian, Spanish). If you find something to be redundant, I can see about removing it assuming it doesn't negatively impact users.

Translation Teams, Members, Permissions

For all the above listed languages, I have ensured there are dedicated translation teams set up to ease adding / modifying access. If you used to provide and submit translations for a language but found you can no longer do so, this may be due to a permission change (there was misconfigured permissions which led to the ability to submit unreviewed translations to the repo unintentionally). In that case, please comment and I'll see about getting you added to that language team. In the event you have been submitting translations but they haven't been getting reviewed, let me know as well. It's possible there is nobody part of that language team. Just please be mindful that everyone doing this is a volunteer (including me), so patience is desirable.

I want to again express my immense gratitude to all of you that have been quietly working hard in the background to make these projects accessible to those that speak your language. It's truly appreciated and I absolutely love when I can just push changes to the translation repo knowing there's tons of improvements made by countless amazing people around the world <3

JoshStrobl I just registered and still waiting on confirmation email but my username will be the same as solus forums - amaanat2017

I can review or translate some strings to Spanish if still needed.

snake Hey there. I think @YakoYakoYokuYoku is planning on translating Spanish (Argentina), @EbonJaegar I believe handles either Spanish or Spanish (American). There's a couple others on the Spanish Translators team, but if you speak the Chilean variant of Spanish then that'd be useful, alongside whatever @EbonJaeger thinks.

@amaanat2017 Lemme know if you ever receive that email (remember to check spam). I can always update its configuration to match the forums if for whatever reason that's the problem.

JoshStrobl I pretty much stick to Spanish (American) and Spanish (Mexican), yeah. The more the better! 😃

@amaanat2017 Please try the account setup again. I've matched the configuration to what our forums use. Had to change it due to some SendGrid auth changes. Apologies for the inconvenience!

I can contribute to Afrikaans if there’s a need. Username is also Merkaba.

Merkaba Thanks! I've added Afrikaans as a new translation available, created the Afrikaans Translators team and added you to it 🙂

I would like to help with Malay translation if there's still a need. My username is charaekeow.

I have just registered. Can you add Albanian languange please.

I can help with Croatian, if you need help, I can register on Weblate

cerdocycon If it's Spanish (Chile) yes. We have the rest covered 🙂

@kuki That'd be great. Let me know what your username there is once you've registered.
