Gnome notification popover with weather and global clocks

With the recent release of Gnome 3.38, I wanted to take a look and spun up a VM of Fedora 33 for comparison. I saw that the notifications popover also has events, global clocks, and weather where Solus Gnome does not. What are the thoughts for exuding these features? Is it that because when included the notifications popover is enormous? (Which is true. It's like having another workspace appear. 🤣 ) Or is it merely dev's preference to have less show?

Personally, I like having the convenience of clicking once and seeing the weather forecast and having visibility to my various development teams' time zones. It's a small touch, but nice. I prefer the benefit of the additional information over any negative of the having the popover appear so large.

Any other Gnome users with similar thoughts? Is there a way to enable these and add to the popover?

Nacho_Trebuchet Solus is not on Gnome 3.38 yet (that's a planned upgrade in the near future), so you're actually comparing two different versions of Gnome since at the current moment Solus Gnome is still on version 3.36. When Solus does upgrade to 3.38, it'll have the calendar, clock, and weather widget all under the calendar's side of the notification center. I'm not a fan of the 3.38 change in regards to the notification center, since it makes the whole notification center even bigger than it already needs to be and if I have like 5 tasks or appointments in my calendar, the notification center literally takes up the whole screen. What is Gnome thinking, I don't know, but for now 3.36 is where we are at, but please be patient for the 3.38 update, it's going to be worked soon according to the devs here: https://discuss.getsol.us/d/5471-gnome-3-38/27

Hi Scotty-Trees and thanks for the reply. Yes, I have been following the status of kernel 5.10 and Gnome 3.38 for Solus. I look forward to newer features landing from upstream just as mush as I look forward to the sync on Fridays. My understanding is that these features existed since Gnome 3.34 and were removed by choice for Solus Gnome. I have been a long-time Budgie user but did not like the lack of calendar integration in Raven as well as other limitations. I changed over to Gnome recently and am enjoying it thus far. I get it how the size of the popover is massive, but if I am only clicking to expose the information momentarily, then the size really does not matter, to me at least. I prefer not to lose a feature and have to resort to extensions to replace functionality that otherwise exists in the core product. But with everything Linux, there is choice and other solutions.

I was just curious if other Gnome users prefer the more stock experience or not. For now, I will utilize the OpenWeather extension and resort to other online clocks when needed.

I agree with some of the comments here. Having the weather and a world clock in the notification area in 3.38 makes the notification window silly large. I live in London.. half the time I can guess what the weather will be. Joking aside, that whole window is bad use of space. I still prefer Gnome above all the others though
