Terminator by default

hello, I would like to know how I can change my default terminal on budgie ? I've try gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec 'terminator'
it's doesn't work

this is what I searched in forum for kicks: "terminal emulator change default"

as suspected requires a desktop file and altered script. good luck. seems doable. someone may chime in with a better script. depends on what you want to run i guess.

Note that the Gnome project makes this very hard, see this bug report:

(applies to Budgie since it uses the same tools in this regard)

I wonder what would happen if you just uninstalled gnome-terminal after installing terminator.

downhill I've done this and it's been fine. you could always reinstall gnome-terminal if you ran into problems

synth-ruiner I think downhill meant what would happen if budgie has only one terminalemulator available (Terminator) which is selectable.

But I think not.

downhill it happen nothing I try this, I remove gnome terminal and when I clic open with a terminal no terminal open.

Just in case you want to do something similar: To get an "Open Terminator here" right-click action into Nautilus (the file manager) I used the program filemanager-actions-nautilus from the repository and configured it like so:

and called that "Open Terminator here"

I'm sure that there is also a hacky way to get the standard "Open Terminal here" to open Terminator instead of gnome-terminal, but I haven't looked further into it after I arrived at my mediocre solution.
