I prefer not to use anything from Google if I can possibly avoid it, but on the media machine I need it for streaming local stations. One of our streaming sources is YouTube TV, and it needs to know our location so it can provide the correct local content. In the past, Google Chrome was the only browser that would provide that information to YouTube TV, so I've been reluctantly using Chrome for that purpose.
At one time I got really excited when I found out that Vivaldi would work, and removed Chrome from the machine. But after a day or two, that quit working and I needed to re-install Chrome. I'm assuming that there must have been some Chrome artifact remaining on the system that eventually disappeared, or perhaps it was with the next upgrade.
Anyway, I noticed that Vivaldi was updated yesterday, so I thought I'd take a look, and indeed I can stream local content from YouTube TV using Vivaldi. I've even checked that on my workstation, which has never had Chrome installed on it, and it works fine here.
I thought I'd mention this in case anyone else is reluctantly using Chrome for streaming and would rather not.
