I don't think it matters...it's just disk space (mostly). And it's a little questionable if you can call a tiling manager as the same kind of beast as gnome or budgie environment. It's a bit more primitive and stand alone.
If you want to run gnome things, you're going to be loading gtk libraries anyway.
Not that you asked, but I think I like sway better than i3 (not sure why yet).
