  • How to find out the nits of my screen (T480, 1920x1080, IPS, matte)?

Hi there!

I have a Thinkpad T480 with an "OK" screen I'm considering to swap out for a better alternative.
It has the 1920x1080 px resolution and is not all too bright which is a common feature of those Thinkpad screens.
Now, I don't mind that too much as I'm working mainly indoors but if I wanted to find out what alternative screens I should be looking for for my current laptop's screen how would I do that?

I presume I need to find out

  1. the precise screen model number
  2. the number of pins of the connector
  3. the screen's brightness (xyz nits).

What can I do to find out these factors without having to take anything apart?
I'm not in a rush, everything is working fine (especially my fantastic OS!), so I can take my time.
Living in Germany and willing to buy internationally.

Thanks for your help!

SOLUSfiddler partner has a workhorse T440. I bought her a lenovo dock and a big monitor go go with it🙂.
Can you swap out laptop screens or am I not understanding? I'm working awful hours so I will admit to cognitive shortcomings here..or you looking for a better lenovo? or a laptop with an outstanding screen?

regardless, I'm not a moneybags and not trying to pitch my "remedy' which wife loves....but a dock and a good 22" screen and everyone happy costs about a $100 US if you do go that route. While I don't often have this sum to dispose it was worth every penny..

Per Lenovo's site the screen is 250 nits. Of course this isn't using the serial number or specific model information of your rig, so YMMV. To accurately measure, you'll need some specialized hardware.
